I'd argue that if i was forced at gunpoint to pick a nation to suffer this disaster, i would pick Japan. Not only have they got arguably the best infrastructure to handle the initial impact, they've also got the best cultural ideals to allow them to deal with the aftermath.
I think the point of the zoomed out image on the right was to show as much of the road repaired already as they could.
Incredible people.
I think everyone in the world just wants this to be over now, it's such an awful situation, a really terrible disaster but I think the world needs to get together and support japan best as possible until this situation is under control. And even when this does end, we can't forget those that have died and we need to help rebuild japan and support the survivors.
There are plenty of other countries that deserve a good shake up but anyway enough about that, what areas so far have had BIG earthquakes in the last 20years?
They should use the millions of reporters over there as slave labour, surely they'll be the least bit useful then. In fact, the British government should shutdown the BBC and divert all excess funds towards Japan as charity.

just a snippet of a blog a year before the BIG japan earthquake.

Does anyone know if the people that lost their homes will get reimbursed? Will the Japanese government pay for them a new home? or give them some kind of payout? What schemes do they have setup in Japan for this sort of thing?
Surely they wont let the survivors just be homeless on the street with no food or shelter?
