ordered an SOC earlier yet to collect it though wondering if i should stick with it or go with this new deal. near 20% more now for the SOC with the performance increase being what 5%??

It was better value for money than the Asus even BEFORE the 10% discount code was available. Simply for the non-reference cooler that (should) cool better than the stock one and make less noise :)
 
I bet in oh about 6 to 9 months you will be able to pickup one of the SOC or the Special gigabyte 480's for about £90 to £130 maybe new at retail but defo at used.What do you think?
I always get my PC parts from OC!
 
Tempted. Very tempted.

I'd be happy with 800MHz from this card. I'm on a single Asus 460 with a modest 800MHz overclock without touching any voltages. Happy enough with that.

Basically, this at 800MHz or more = a 580.

Going to sleep on this one, I think :D

So to follow your logic my MSI 460 is at 875mhz so its approaching 590 speeds ?

That's not his logic, that's your logic.

He merely stated that GTX480@800MHz+ is roughly equal to stock GTX580. He may be a little off but in many case scenarios, that is a true comparison.

This is now the third time I have come across that 'Insert core clock speed of GTX 480 here and you will get GTX 580 performance'. In order of appearance:

  • GTX 480 core running at 850MHz equals to the performance of a GTX 580.

  • GTX 480 core running at 820MHz equals to the performance of a GTX 580.

  • GTX 480 core running at 800MHz equals to the performance of a GTX 580.
So, what's it going to be next week? :p

A GTX 480 with a core speed of 850MHz is going to be pretty close to a GTX 580. However, in terms of raw performance, the GTX 580 is still going to be the better card. Though, from a price to performance ratio perspective, the GTX 480 really is a superb card. :)
 
i'd rather stick with my 2 asus gtx 480s which i picked up last week for £390, sure there a bit loud compared to other cards but im not that fussed cards idle at around 35c and at load inbetween 74 to 80 if my rooms really hot, but the fans never go that high, much better than my stupid 5970 which has broke twice.
