"1256: Russia, which abstained from the UN vote on a no-fly zone, calls on the UK, France and the US to "stop non-selective use of force" in Libya, Reuters reports."

china will get more and more vocal as gaddafi gets weakened and russia with them ;)

which is why america didnt want to be seen as taking the lead they arent stupid and need relations with china

What a excellent opinion from those responsible for chechyna, and if they didnt like it then they have veto power.

What's the reason for not using Lampedusa like we did in 1986? are we within range of their missles (that they didn't own in '86) from there?

Updated reports that we are going to be based from Italy, interesting that C130 transport aircraft and our E3D and US E3D aircraft have been flying out of Akrotiri.

One thing you need to remember is flying an aircraft out of a home base is one thing, but the ground crew and spares that are needed to fly it out of another base are quite another! The logistical operations behind all these operations must be mindblowing.

I see our Arab League partners are happy.

CAIRO - Arab League on Sunday criticised Western military strikes on Libya, a week after urging the United Nations to slap a no-fly zone on the oil-rich North African state.
“What has happened in Libya differs from the goal of imposing a no-fly zone and what we want is the protection of civilians and not bombing other civilians,” Arab League secretary general Amr Mussa told reporters.

On March 12, the Arab League urged the United Nations to impose a no-fly zone on Libya and said Moamer Kadhafi’s regime had “lost legitimacy” as it sought to snuff out a rebellion designed to oust him from power.

In the West’s biggest intervention in the Arab world since the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, US warships and a British submarine fired more than 120 Tomahawk cruise missiles into Libya on Saturday, the US military said.

French warplanes also carried out strikes.

The UN Security Council passed Resolution 1973 on Thursday authorising military action to prevent Kadhafi’s forces from attacking civilians.

OK, but you didn't actually answer my question? Perhaps there is no reason, they just preferred the support of Italy/Cyprus?

Edit: oh you meant lack of ground crew at Lampedusa?

Good job you cleared that up, Mr Mussa, we thought the idea was to bomb civilians.

Why would that be "probably true"?

Sounds a little far fetched tbh.

Erm, I've seen some horrendous things just like that on those ogrish type sites years ago, sites of which I will never go to again since they are beyond shocking. Believe me, these people are more than capable and more than happy to do just that, incredulous as it sounds.

You'll excuse me if I ignore Daily Mail/Guardian readers opinions.

Because of what reason?

Are you in possesion of some other form of ignorance than the readers of those two papers?

Or does you political narrow mindedness proclude you from recognising anyone elses right to a differing opinion than your own?

My fellow Arm-Chair Generals, can I request a status report on applied operations?

I.E.

UK Tornadoes flying all the way (3000) to fire some missiles, using mid-air refuelling.

US launching Tomahawks from their frigates?

French planes fly around shooting at stuff.

UK Sub firing tomahawks?

Is that whats gone on so far? obvisouly it sounds like a lot more hardware is yet to be in place and I'm going to assume the reason the UK took the decision to fly all the way was probably more of an real-time exercise and not very practical?

At easy comrades.

Because I just heard David Cameron and William Hague say it is not. ;)
I don't believe it is about regime change, if Gaddafi calms the head then I think partition of Libya into two separate states may well be the likely outcome. Though if he goes it will be viewed as a bonus.
