***Official Shogun Total War 2 Thread***

Yes realm divide has just happened, not that it will make any difference as any clan you come into contact with when one of your provinces hits their borders, turns hostile towards you if not immediately, after a few turns.

Thing is when the Realm Divide happens factions try very hard to attack you, like they send armies through their enemies land and ignore them on the way making a bee line for you, also on my normal/normal game they even sent ships with full stacks to my homeland. Once you deal with the 5-10 stacks from the enemies though it gets much easier problem is they can all come at once.

Uhh, dunno what difficulty to set it on. MTW2's 'very hard' setting was a cake-walk. The AI is better in this?

Greatly. It's not perfect, but certainly at it's very best so far!

I got the limited edition, can anyone else tell me where exactly the extra content is? I activated it on steam and it seemed to do an instant d/l, if any (I think I noticed a screen flicker lol) but I can't tell what extra I payed for? I don't see a 'ninja' clan anywhere and I don't know which of the random bits of armour was included :S

I still haven't bought this. It does look rather nice but one thing that concerns me - people are saying the AI is a lot better in this - could that just be because CA have sped the battles up and turned it into a click-fest. I got that feeling myself in the demo which was somewhat discouraging. The battles were manic and I couldn't move the mouse fast enough to areas that needed my attention. This is the only thing really putting me off!

I'm a pause-monster anyway on TW games. :D

BTW, is it the lack of AA that gives the edges of some things that 'tinsel' look?

It's only a click-fest if you're not using much of a healthy strategy. I imagine you'll quickly find yourself in trouble if you just spam your units to attack theirs, without giving much thought into how the battle should play out before-hand.

That is the main problem, they all ally against you (which in itself seems very unrealistic). If you can turtle and soak up the initial "flagship/primary" armies you can quickly move out and push them back. My problem was that I was just not prepared for the initial onsalught. Once I dealt with that things got easier.

Exactly, plus there is a slow motion option and ability to pause anyway. Total War couldn't be further from a clickfest.

Updated my drivers and things are much smoother now. It's basic, but I recommend doing it if you are having problems. A few turns in and I'm really enjoying it. Anyone else had a bit of a biased Heroic Victory? I fielded 5/6 units against the enemy's one and was awared a HV! Must be after-battle propaganda :D

Determined to take my time with this game, read everything and go for the immersion.

Yeah, noticed this after a whole stack taking out a single enemy units - couldn't help but smile :)

My other problem at the moment is how biased autoresolve is when you have one army or more reinforcing. If you play in realtime you can only field a whole stack at a time and the reinforcing army will only replace unit that is killed/routs. Autoresolve, however, seems to assume that ALL reinforcing armies can attack at once. This seems to give autoresolve a significant advantage.

The AI is a lot better and the games ain't that much fasters then Napoleon games. The greatest bit about the AI now is also annoying to you. They know they have an advantage on a hill and if you attacked them on battle map they will stay up there and make you either run up it with your units and wear them all out or move your bow units in but also get picked off a lot. They are also a lot better at flanking with units/cavalry if they have the melee units to do so.

Okay cool sounds like a nice improvement. By the way, when I said click-fest what I meant by that was the units running too fast, or the horses gliding over land like that are airborne :D I noticed a 20-30% reduction in unit speed mod, so maybe that's the answer until Darthmod comes along :)

TW games have always been like that. I often play from the campaign map and attack with two or more armies, autoresolve all the time.

The campaign map AI better then ETW. Only because it actually does something! In my game all the small factions seem to be wiped out and only larger ones left. I'm a bit confused why my allies who say they are "very friendly" refuse to trade! That's not being friendly

Never understood why people want to make the game slower!

I'd advise against using it atm, makes melee troops extremely vulnerable to arrow fire (more volleys in the same amount of time) until they can add a few more points to melee armour. Apparently those aspects can't be modded yet.

Probably because you don't have a resource that they need therefore not really beneficial. Also factions may have maxed out their trade capacity.

Perhaps it is so people can play it without everything happening so fast they can't figure out what they're doing (micro management) and they don't want to keep pausing?

Ive never had to pause in a total war game other than going down for something to eat or a toilet break. The game speed is fine, you can manage and watch massive armies and control they with plenty of time.

Got in a bit of a pickle here with this nasty bunch, wasn't sure if it would be the end of my clan (at least the front of it) :p but I pulled through and took the province back. Thought that full stack at the top might also cause me some trouble having to chase after them, but continuously sabotaging the army meant they couldn't move and after 3-4 turns I had caught them :D

Fine for you maybe, but other people have their own preferences. I'm totally OCD and pause a lot. I also like to make sure my men are in very neat rows and so on...:o

Completed a campaign on medium really easily as Oda. I had 14 provinces and was earning like 10k per turn and had stock piled up like 50k. Took Kyoto and just turtled down (Was surrounded by Takeda and Hattori who were both very strong allies). Amassed about 6 full stacks of random units to try them out and then done a very rapid expansion out to the west. Must have taken 20 provinces in about 4 years. Had enough money to keep one ally happy with the expansion but the other had provinces I needed for victory conditions so let that decay and then destroyed his entire empire of 8 regions in a few turns and then won the campaign. Might play a short campaign on hard/very hard now I have found good uses for units and agents.

What wrong with using the pause and slow-mo option? Why do you want the enemy to walk slower across the map? I always put it on FF until the fight about to start.
