Hey guys, im looking for a new cooler and was wondering how the Noctua NH-D14 sat on an AM3 socket. Does is point upwards like other AM3 coolers or does it point backwards like it does on intel sockets?

Anyone have any pics?

If im honest id love to watercool my rig but ive no idea where to start, or the prices.

Looks like you should be ok but check the install manual and mobo/ram compatability here: http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=34&lng=en

On Intel you can choose to fit it both vertical and horizontal however it's a huge cooler so might not fit one way or the other depending on your mobo layout. If you fit it vertical I think you might have to unclip the right/bottom fan and move it around to the top.

Is your board an AMD socket?

No, Intel - see sig :)

But look at the instructions, your mobo backplate and the size and you should get a good idea about how it fits.

On an AM3 board, the cooler points from east to west, this is the performance I am getting.
CPU: AMD 955 BE(C2)@ 3.92GHz 1.52V
Cooling: Noctua DH14 with Artic Silver 5
Prime95 for 12 hours with a top temp of 52 degrees, idle at 34 degrees. Room temp was about 22 degrees.

Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-UD5P, 955 BE(C2)@ 3.92GHz 1.52V,Geil Value 4GB DDR3-1600,

What sort of temps you getting with the NH-D14? Just ordered mine last night at £58.99 :) I have the same motherboard and have my i5 2500k sitting at 4.6ghz also so would be interesting to see the difference before I go and fit it. Waiting for swapped motherboard so might be a while before I get the d14 fitted yet.
