Looks like Codemasters have now abandoned PC retail releases. For years they have been messing about with PC retail anyway with some games not always appearing on time etc etc now it looks like they are going PC Digital Download only as today the newist trailer confirms this title on PC will not have a retail version at all! (no doubt Dirt3 will be digital only as well in May).

GFWL/Steam only by the looks of it wonder who will be cheaper on release as its a GFWL title anyway for Co-Op/Achievements (no MP Co-Op only which is a good decision for this type of squad based gameplay as you can choose your team mates & not get stuck with some tool!!!). Game looks reasonable & no doubt the recent world events will make it sell even more copies! I never played any of the other games in the series before so do not know how bad they were/are!!!

since they dont need to worry about upsetting the retailers this better be a lot cheaper than 29.99 on steam

You have some amusing ideas. You really don't think Dirt 3 will be available in retail?
If Operation Flashpoint is a download-only release, it's probably just a sign that the title is not high profile anymore, and is something the company is using to explore other (cheaper) distribution schemes.

Wasn't a terrible game at all tbh (completely and utterly mis-sold with absolute lies of trailers mind). All the ARMA fanboys hated it but then we all knew they would before it was even released, so it's a bit of a pointless measure of the game. If it had been released without the Flashpoint name it still wouldn't set anyones world on fire (kinda like MOH), but it was worth a play through.

The last one was truely dire, I would be shocked if this sold 100k on PC. I think online co op would have been the only thing that could've saved it, but then that isn't present...

They tested the water with f1 2010 (which you could pre-order at retail on PC at a few places) and this seems to be the title they properly test it. I can't see DiRT 3 not being retail, it's too big a game. After what happened with Dragon Rising, I'm really not surprised by this.

I bought Dragon Rising in the Steam sales, £2.24 I think it was, well worth the money IMO. Not saying it was anything groundbreaking but as a modern FPS judged on merit rather than compared with OpFlash/ARMA it was fine. Even if I'd paid 4x that I still wouldn't have been dissatisfied.

Well I asked the community manager a few weeks ago & he refuses to answer so I posted on the official forums & no-one from Codemasters will answer the question either so when this is DD only & F1 2010 was at the last minute an amazon retail exclusive until the copies ran out (yeah right its still available at other etailors)............ Dirt3 was available to pre-order a few months ago then it went missing on all the major etailors for PC....not looking very hopeful is it!!
