PSN Offer - MAG

Just got to Level 10. It is pretty damn hard for sure when you start out, but I'm going the easy Medic EXP route.

Domination is just insane with gunfire and explosions constantly going off.

How is everyone getting on with this? I'm liking it but it's tough going, this is no large hit boxes CoD shooter. This reminds me far more of old Battlefield and CS on the PC!
There are console FPSes that require more skill than CoD :p - unfortunately as they arent as accessible/simple, no one plays them. This probably is as near as BF2 as you are gonna get it on a console...

ps3ud0

Luckily I accidentally left my PS3 on while I was out the other night so it had downloaded while I was away and managed to play for a few hours last night, fun game, pretty similar to how I remember the beta but a bit smoother. The big 256 player games are pretty fun, laggy at points, but fun. Even though they are mostly split up into 4 smaller kinda separate battles you still enjoy the sense of scale.

Quite good when your squad is managing fine to hold your sector but around you others are getting pushed back, so you have to make the choice to go over and help them or risk being flanked or having your mortars and other equipment blown up.

Only thing I don't like is how they split up skills trees from equipment. Before I remember at level 15-20 you could have just focused on say Assualt rifles (with a bit of repair/heal) and have one of the better guns and a few attachments, so while you couldnt do everything, you were good at what you could do. But now unlocking equipment is all level and 'money' restricted so equipment wise you are at a bigger disadvantage at lower levels. I guess now you can split up your skills more easily and maybe the point costs were lower in the beta, but I preferred the original method.

Either way aside from the occasional noob tube getting launched at me, I didn't feel to penalised being stuck on the default equipment, so its not unbalanced that way and its always fun to kill level 60-70s up with your little level 6 soldier.

Really glad there's the Multiqueueing System since waiting for certain games can be a pain in the ass, and the bonus EXP you get, even after something little makes some difference.

Having done most of my Move FPS gaming on Killzone 3, I am finding the move controls on this somewhat diabolical.

Dead zone too large, movement/looking just feel slightly off somehow, and worst of all, no customisable button layout and the left trigger is not aim (it's L1 that is aim, and honestly, it's so wrong it's up there with inverting the axis for looking!!!!)

Think it was easier with pad, which I found to be the opposite of KZ3.

And I was going to "purchase" a second character slot, only to find you pay a subscription for 30 days for a character slot!! That's just wrong in my opinion. Bad enough having to pay anything at all, but a subscription? No thanks!

Having said all that, I do find the game enjoyable.

Im in Valor, and in a clan (which helps a lot, believe me as the game is full of veterans... but dont let that put you off, you can easily catch up!)

Some things that will help you level up quicker are:

Purchasing the resus' kit and adding skill points to the med tree. This allows you to bring someone back from the dead and gives you 10XP for doing so.

Another thing is to try and follow your Squad Leaders 'Frago' target. You will see this as a flashing white box around the icon on the mini map and also get a pointer via text at the top of the screen. Everything you do around the Frago will double you points, so a kill you get 5 XP and then 5 XP again, assists 3+3... resus 10+10 and if its something to blow up you get 15+15 iirc

Finally try and keep an eye out for your happy hour... this gives you double XP for the rounds you play in that hour.

Those not in SVER, try not to lose to much heart over the defeats.. SVER are the best out there, part due to weapons. But now the game has opened up all maps to all teams, so rather than just defending your own, you can now defend Ravens or SVERs map... this evens things up as SVERs maps are generally better to defend than attack.

Regards the DLCs I believe Escalation is more popular due to it being 32v32v32... pretty unique with all 3 teams fighting against each other and sometimes with each other to oust the other PMC from the checkpoints.

Its one of those games where you forget your KDR and get on with the team based tactics... eventually as you level up you will get positive scores etc if that floats your boat, or you may be an expert in repairing/meds/driving or all 3.

Last night for example we had 3 squads in a Platoon on Domination.... 24 players, which once you get playing is awesome fun as you all fight on a front and if the defense is decent you can get some great action, reviving, rushing in... flanking tactics to get the AA.... brilliant game.

I just can't make my mind up about whether to get this game.... I have just started BFBC2 (currently level 2 - woah lol!) and have a couple of mates that I am starting to regularly play with as a squad so would I be better sticking with that or dipping my toes into the ocean that is MAG?

Don't see the point in having two MP games unless you have loads of free time.

Otherwise it's likely neither will really get the attention it deserves. BC2 is great, so enjoy it :)

Well I was new to this game since last Thursday and due to a lovely free weekend, I played so much that I just reached Level 50 (70 is the maximum).

Depending on how much free time you have, how well you play and the amount of wins, I would say you could easily reach a reasonable level within a few weeks/months or so. Honestly it's no different to any other FPS game with leveling up/unlock mechanics.

I really have to emphasize how great the Multiqueue system is. The stackable EXP bonus you get makes a lot of difference and speeds up the process. Then you also have Happy Hour times for more bonuses.

Id say give MAG a go, especially if you like the larger scale warfare.

The intensity of some of the battles is unmatched, same with the scale of things (Maps etc) plus plenty of objectives so battles go back and forth.... sometimes you are on your last legs with the platoon leader screaming tactics down the mic' trying to get 32+ players to rush 1 objective at a time to flood the enemy... only to find that they are bunkered in with similar numbers, its can be a bloodbath - especially with players reviving, it really adds importance to bleeding someone out.

Its one of those games that has to be played and played for a while to get into. If you are all about KDR then it will be tough and probably annoy you at first, as you cant afford the better armor or have levelled up your character to have better skills... purchase better guns, but as mentioned above levelling is quick enough with the bonus XP available, following Frago targets to get double XP per action on/around that target... trying to get skilled quickly in a medic or engineer role so you can get revive points or repair points etc

Its cheap enough... go for it :D

OK, so if I were to get it, what DLC packs would I need (or rather are worth getting)? It goes from £12 for MAG alone to ~£20 with DLC and I know it sounds tight but is it worth ~£20? Does anyone know the longevity for this title (IE will there be a MAG2 released any time soon?)
