whats your martial art?

Although not technically a martial art, I do Krav Maga. Had to take a fair break from it due to injury but hoping to go back in about a months time.
Done Karate when I was much younger, but didn't enjoy it much.

Krav Maga is excellent. Not practiced much around here though.

It's definitely something I want to learn, although not sure which one to choose - I just want to be able to defend myself should I ever find myself in a situation!

Everyone will tell you to do the martial art they do, "cause it's the best." Honestly the best thing you can do is too go and try out a few, do a class or three on a few different martial arts and pick the one that suits you best and the one you enjoy the most.

Everyone is different and will take to different things, nearly all martial arts regardless of how good or how bad they are will make you more capable than the average man on the street.

However if you want something that's practical, fun, won't take an eternity to get the hang of and effective... give Judo a bash.

I kick boxes, or do kickboxing .. i forget...

Its taught with similar fighting style to taekwondo, but with a bit more real-life application.... been doing it about 2 times a week 2 hours a session since last october... great fun and incredible for fitness... havnt got round to grading yet, but been enjoying a bit of sparing... might start competing in competitions/ uni fights if i get uber fit over the summer

Of course it's a martial art.

And to keep the thread going - I've done karate for many years now.

It doesn't matter what Martial Art you study, you will have a weakness I can exploit. I am a master of Junk Food :p

Krav Maga isn't a martial art in the traditional sense. It is a unarmed combat technique.

To the OP, I have studied Karate, a bit a Tai Chi and Taekwondo. Also a whole raft of unarmed combat techniques including the aforementioned Krav Maga.

Muay Thai, although had to stop due to hernia. My son still does it..

I might return, have always wanted to do Krav but little to no classes within reasonable distance of me.

Was Krav Maga the one which TwoBlackLines used to bang on about before he got banned? He's had more fights than you've had hot dinners etc? God, I miss that loony, goony manchild :)

Karate from ages 9-19. Got to 1st dan Black and stopped due to University.

Fought for club and country at all competitions across the world. Welsh GP, British GP, Ireland, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Japan.

Boxing for about 5 years, can't remember my record now but had a habit of knocking people out, think it was 19 KOs i had. Stopped due to alcohol and girls, stupid stupid mistake really. o well live and learn. Kickboxing now since ive been at uni, green belt but don't get the chance to fight really and am finding semi contact a bit boring. Need some full contact action tbh!

You need to try a few and see what suits you. Though i think aikido is great for defence. I don't see the striking martial arts as that good when it comes to self defence and ive been doing them for years now. I seem to always revert to locks if i get into a fight, granted its been years since i have

Looks very much like Aikido.

very difficult to tell from a static shots surely, also no haks so not aikido.

Also Trust me it is very much Jujitsu, just at those moments I was presenting to the rest of the dojo and was only a purple belt then so not perfect by any means...
