****The Nintendo 3DS Thread****

Well the Jungle place have made an almighty **** up of some sort... Just got off the phone to customer services and there's some investigation going on as to why a load of people don't have their 3DSs on release day.

They wouldn't confirm whether they will expedite deliveries that were set to 1st class either - awaiting update via email... Last time I preorder anything from them...

I'm not fuming like many others as the 3DS isn't for me, but I can understand that there are some really angry/upset people out there. Amazon obviously can't handle release day events like this properly.

I order a lot from them, but never anything that I want/need for release day.

Well it was dispatched an hour ago, so hopefully I should have it tomorrow. It's a present and seeing as I already told my niece I'd have a nice surprise for her this weekend, it'd be a bit of a let down telling her to wait until Monday... I was hoping for it today so I could have a play beforehand but I suppose it's a good thing that I don't - she might never have got it otherwise! :p

Aye - lesson learned there I think!

So to those that have theirs... is this 3D thing a gimmick and do you think you'll just be leaving the slider down once the novelty has worn off, or is this a genuine innovation that's here to stay?

After recalibrating the 3D many times as I just couldnt get the feel in Ridge Racer right (it was ghosting for me even though I was fine on the system menus) I'm beginning to think I'll have mine in 2D a lot and just enjoy the improved UI and power of the machine.

I also have a minor cosmetic niggle as I find the little feet on the front bottom of the device rub my little finger when I'm playing, its mildly irritating.

Overall though I'm happy to own one :)

I keep popping back this thread hoping for more game reviews though.

I'm normally the same but was tempted by the good price, i had expedited shipping already, so if it doesn't get to me today they should refund my shipping, my order still states being prepared for dispatch, but still says Delivery Estimate: 25 Mar 2011 I doubt very much that it will get to me today, its for my son, he wont mind waiting till tomorrow, but if it doesn't i'll just go and get one from the shops.

Amazon does drive me up the wall i have a desk sitting apparently at the blackhole hub (thats what i call it), it was suppose to be with me by this thursday, now next tuesday, all i can think it could be is a two man delivery.

It's an 'enhancement' gimmick that makes an often subtle, but very nice, difference.

I'll most definitely be leaving it on, and something feels 'missing' when it's switched off.

I think it's very similar to the difference between SD and HD - if you can switch between them it's very noticeable, but if you go long enough with just one by itself you get used to not missing the other.

However, it's a very welcome enhancement and I'm very happy with mine - I mainly bought it for some retail therapy, but I'm pleasantly surprised at how much more I like it than I expected to

I'm feeling like a bit of retail therapy at the moment so I'm thinking of buying one for myself now... I'll know for sure if/when my niece is fighting me to regain control of hers :p

The 'sweet spot' for seeing the 3D is pretty small, and you need to be in that spot. However, it's very easy to stay in whilst playing (assuming the game doesn't need you to move) so it's not really a problem.

I'm trying to not hype it up too much, but everyone I've shown it to seems impressed that it's better than they expected, and I imagine a few more sales will happen over the weekend.

Regardless of how 'useful' the 3D is, it's an obvious enhancement, and I've not found anyone so far who's said they can't really see a difference.

The question is though is 3d a good substitute for HD graphics and complex textures plus real polygon 0uushing power?

The graphics are sub par for a 2011 console.it's real power is already in question and arguably only just as good as the PSP which is now end of life.

So what you have is a 3d console that lacks 3d polygon power. The best DS games were 2d because well that's the best that the DS could achieve.

It's more powerful than the PSP and has far newer shaders. The PSP wasn't capable of PS2 level graphics, it was more like PS 1.5 if that. You can just look at games such as Gran Turismo to see how much better they were graphically on the PS2 as opposed to the PSP iteration, and that was a late game in the PSP life.

Exactly the PSP wasn't great - but it came out 6 years ago. And was quite good for 2005. Its now 2011 and the 3ds is barely any better.

Low poly count models and low detail games in sketchy resolutions are all your going to get. That's fine for Pokemon. But then my DS does that anyway.

Nintendo have never been about High resolution, high poly count, highly detailed games, they've always been designed so that they make money as a company.

Apparently the total cost to make excluding any other costs is about $101

I ordered mine from QVC, didn't have to money to buy one out right, so I got the Sims 3 with mine... Don't laugh but I hate Sims going to trade it in when I get it.
