2xHD6850

the tearing is your monitor... anything higher than 60fps will make tearing on some monitors

yeh, but 60fps is pretty good still aint it? i mean will i see a difference if it was running over that?
the most obvious game is batman AA, that is pretty much all the time. FIFA11 was bad if you were running too.
bought crysis yesturday with my game voucher, the one with warhead and wars, and the 10th anniversary medal of honour pack. not had time to install them yet, but i hear crysis is pretty good at showing gfx weakness.

thats what i thought, but i get soo many mixed views on it whenever people talk about FPS. if you cant go over your screens refresh rate, then why do they give you an option to disable vsync? or do some monitors cope well with FPS higher than their refresh rate?

it depends on the game , and also some monitors/tv can cope really well with FPS higher than their refresh rate, but even so u won't feel the difference .

on my 46" 3d tv i don't see hardly any tearing when the FPS is higher than the refresh rate.....

vsync can sometimes make input lag happen.

ok thanks. do you have any ideas about my other thread :
since i installed my second HD6850 and upgraded to 11.4 RC2 (stupidly did the both at the same time) i have an odd issue with my dual screen setup.
normally i had it as a duplicate setup, so my monitor and tv both showed the same, and it was fine. now however, it will display this fine when on the desktop but as soon as i launch a full screen app, the monitor shuts off and i only get my tv. close the full screen app and the desktop comes back on the monitor.
both screens are set to 1920x1080 @60Hz so its not that, i havent done anything but fit the second card and update the drivers so im not sure which has caused the problem. unfortunatly i have not been at home to really do any diagnostics myself (like disable CF or roll back the drivers) but thought it might be worth an ask incase people had a similar problem.

also, i get screen tearing in games unless i use vsync, is this down to the monitor/tv or the fact i have the settings too high?

its puzzling me.

also, what is Hydravision?

AMD said:

but what is it really? does it mean i can have 1 pc with 2 monitors having 2 completly different desktops?
i went into its options but it looked complex with grids and stuff.

dont need duplicates, just worried something had gone wrong. so far very happy with the 2 cards performance over the single card, well worth selling the PS3 for :)

well had a bash on DiRt2 and wow. everything maxed out and how smooooooth :) ticked vsync as i get proper bad tearing :( benchmark showed max fps of 62 and average of 58 so overall well please :)

is it normal that in MSI AB and AMDs CCC card 2 sits @ 35C and card 1 sits @ 0C until you launch an app or something, then card 1 goes up to 35C and card 2 goes to around 41C? or is it not monitoring correctly?

installed crysis, all would be ok, only there is no option to vsync:( so i get major screen tearing. to stop this do i just lower the graphics settings?

Hi :)

Is it possible you could set your PCIe slot for your second 6850 to 4x speed and see whether it makes any difference to your benchmarks?

I'm debating a second 6850, but my board only does 4x speed on the secondary slot, and some figures to see whether it'll limit it too much will be great :)

not sure if my mobo has that feature.
going down to 4x will only give you a 5-10% hit i think so its not huge. i wouldnt think twice about having the second one in there, its made everything run that little bit smoother and temps (unless its lying to me) seem to be good. if you are enjoying the single 6850, then adding a second will only put a huge smile on your face.

i adjusted that and it did nothing, i went to the right (quality) i think that was the right way

If you could, I would really appreciate it - be good to have some cold, hard facts rather than most people's "guesstimations" :)

OcUK have the Asus 6850 on offer on TWO (and it's just been payday...)

had a look on the online manual and cant see anything obvious. sorting out someones pc tonight/tomorrow so my monitor and everything is tied up, will have a look on sunday if thats any use.
