Ok, doing the online Census right now and have got to the Religion section.
I am Atheist btw, but am tepmted to put 'Jedi' in the 'any other religion' section.
Is this a bit immature of me?
It is right that if enough people put this then Jedi will become an official religion?
Mind you, if it does become official we might get people in brown dressing gowns knocking on our door's giving leaflets out!
Maybe another religion called 'Sith' will have to be created to combat this.:p

No, it will not become an official religion. That's an urban myth that does the rounds on the Internet every time a census is issued.

Debate on tv at the moment.

Last census 72% put Christianity down, she has a fair point. They aren't practising Christians and as such shouldn't put it down. These census and stats govern a lot of future planning and opinion.
Although one person said you should only say you are if you go to church, what rubbish. you don;t need to be a church goer to be a christian. In fact i would say you are more of a christian if you don;t go, or maybe go but don't believe that denomination.

Would be nice to see the split, I think less and less younger people will put a religion down, when they only see it as a cultural feeling. Than older generations, which nearly always put Christianity down, even though they don;t have faith, or where merely baptised as a child.

I ignored it - purely as I believe myself to be agnostic. Saying "no religion" is a tiny step too far for me.

Really I think it's ok, Would be nice if it split it up more. But putting no religion down, doesn't mean atheist or anything, just no religion. Which encompasses a whole manner of believes.

That's how I read it, I follow no religion therefore I put down no religion. It's not because I do or don't believe there could be a deity out there, it's because I don't follow any religion. It might be nice if I had the choice of apathetic agnostic but it risks subdividing down too far as to be meaningless.

The question didn't ask, "What religion do you practice?", it said, "What is your religion?".

Given religion can be:
  • the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, esp. a personal God or gods
  • a particular system of faith and worship
  • details of belief as taught or discussed
I wasn't sure what it was asking me. Whilst I practice no religion, I am unsure of my beliefs and their validity, hence agnostic.

Ambiguous question is ambiguous.
