Sounds like some cheesy 'CoD'ish 3rd person shooter multi player garbage set around the 2nd and 3rd games story line, nothing close to the originals. Dead space picked up after Resi 3 for me anyway.

It's also clearly not meant to be the same kind of game as the originals...

It's a team-based squad shooter set around the time of Resident Evil 2. This game is also made by the same people who did the PSP SOCOM games, so expect something similar to those.

Hardly, since this is a 3rd-Person game, and more like an action version of the Resident Evil: Outbreak games.

Sounds similar, except its two teams of 'survivors' competing against each other with AI controlled nasties rather then 1 survivor team and 1 zombie team

What for? Why wouldn't they work together as 1 team instead of competing to screw each other over?

Doesn't sound like it'd have much longevity if thats how it plays. L4D Campaign is fun because theres at least the randomness of enemies to contend with and Versus is direct competition against other people so things will always feel different rather than indirect competition. Could you imagine how dull Versus would be if it was simply 2 teams competing in campaign mode?
