Ok, this is one mega-long post which details a recent dream. I've bothered to write it out because I think it's the most interesting thing my brain has ever come up with and it boggles my mind how my, err, mind can come up with this subconsciously. So if you can bother to make it through, I think you'll get some entertainment from it, or at least some insight towards how creative the human subconcious can get! So, have you ever had one of those weird dreams that are so vivid that they just leave you thinking 'how on earth did I think that up'? Well, I had one of these the other day... a nightmare with a genuinely surprising spooky twist at the end

The concept was me, my brother and my dad were watching a spooky film, supposedly the scariest film of all time (yep, a dream within a dream!). The plot of the film will be in italics, the 'main dream' will be in normal font.

We all sit down in our lounge to begin the film. My dad hates scary films, so he isn't happy.

An Englishman goes to Germany to fill the possition open of looking after an old German castle at night. He speaks a little German but finds the town friendly enough.. although they warn him that strange things go on in that castle. So he eventually gets to the castle gate and is greeted by the owner / head of management and gets a tour of the castle. In the main room there is a large statue of a woman which has had her face broken off... weird. Anyway, he gets shown to a bedroom, which is very distinct (brown murky curtains, a wardrobe at the end of the bed, a big stain on the ceiling) and unpacks his things and the manager leaves, eventually going to bed for the night. Everything is fine and normal until.... there is something in his bed... a person! He runs to the light and finds there is a woman in his bed - a beautiful woman. She tells him not to worry and that she is lonely. She asks him to join her. Nervous, he eventually gets into bed and him and he and the woman end up making love.

Me and my brother find this very amusing whilst my dad seems typically embarrassed.

In the morning, the woman has vanished and there is nothing remaining to indicate she was there. He goes down to the town to get some food, and the grocery store owner asks him if he has seen the ghost of the 'lady of the house'. Laughing, he replies 'no' and the grocery store owner says that the castle is haunted and that the owner used to be a high ranking Nazi in WWII. He is warned not to return to the castle. Smiling he pays and leaves. Later that night, sure enough the ghost returns again and they make love. This happens for a few nights and all seems well. However, one night when the man and ghost are lying there, she puts her face close to his... and screams in his face, a horrifying, terrible scream. He shrieks back and turns on the light. The woman is gone. The bedsheets are covered in blood.

"That's it, I'm done. That'll give me nightmares as it is" my Dad says and leaves the room for bed. Me and my brother promptly call him a wuss.

The protaganist is disturbed and wants to seek more information about the ghost. The next day he speaks to the grocery store owner to find out what happened and he tells him the following (Note - we are now in 'a dream within a dream within a dream' territory!). The woman was beautiful and adored by all, marrying a man that was involved with the Nazi party (before the war started). This man eventually became involved with one of the nearby concentration camps and was involved with shocking and inhuman experiments. He enjoyed killing the prisoners whilst drunk whilst they sleeped with a hammer. One night, he came back and in his drunken bloodthirst killed his wife in the same manner, smashing her head to bits whilst she slept. Realising what he had done, he hung himself from the main hall. The townsfolk were distraught and prepared her coffin for her, leaving it in the castle for her funeral. However, the war broke out and the coffin was left whilst other ongoings occured. When the castle was next entered years later... the coffin and her body had gone. Legend has it that her body and soul were taken up by the castle, becoming one and the same, ready to enact her confused revenge on anyone unfortunate enough to come accross her. The grocery store owner laughs, but the protagonist is not amused. He enquires further and apparenty the room she died is the room he had been sleeping in. Frightened, he gets a local paranormal expert to accompany him back to the castle.

"Ok, this is getting a little bit freaky now" I say to my brother.

The duo enter the house and begin exploring for paranormal activity. The atmosphere is very eerie and the castle seems genuinely evil this time around. Noises and creekings are coming from all directions. Suddently, they here a distant scream, which sounds like it's coming from the bedroom. They get to the corridoor leading to it and see the ghost. Approaching both of them, carrying something. As she gets closer, it's clear she is carrying a hammer. As she gets closer still, the light reveals her face has been competely decimated and is horrific - her murder wounds. The duo scream and run off to hide. All of a sudden, the ghost reappears through the wall and smashes the paranormal investigator in the face with a hammer splatting blood everywhere and killing him instantly. The protagonist runs as fast as he can through corridoors he can't recognise. He eventually ends up in a room to hide in. Sadly, he realises he has ended up in the bedroom - the scene of her death. Hearing her approach, he cowers under the bed. Suddenly, the lights go out and all that remains is his heavy breathing....

Me and my brother have had enough. Being quite happy to not see the end of the film, we turn it off and begin to laugh at how scared we were. Suddenly we are not laughing. We realise that we are not in our lounge. We never were. We were in the German castle, sat in the main hall, watching the film. Looking up we see the body of the hanging dead nazi, swinging. Frightened, we exit the room to the left out the door my dad left by. We find him dead, his head caved in from looks likes blows with a blunt object... the hammer! Suddenly the ghost appears through the wall opposite at us advancing with the hammer. We sprint away, not knowing where to go, but recognising parts of the castle from the film. After being chased for awhile, we end up by accident in (yup you guessed it) the bedroom. There is nowhere left to run - my brother gets into the wardrobe and I scramble under the bed. The lights go out and I scrunch my eyes tight whilst I hear a series of paranormal screeching noises. I peek out of the bed, to see my brother slain on the floor with hammer wounds to his face. I'm all alone in the bedroom... suddenly the lights go out again and I'm left in the dark... I hear the footsteps of the ghost approach...

ARGHRGRHRGRH!!! At this point I'm so frightened I wake up in a sweat (and yes, I am actually awake before you start guessing). I refuse to go back to sleep because I am so frightened of what I had dreamed. How could I think something so bizarre and lifelike up?! It felt so real... After awhile I began to find it quite funny that I never found out the end of the story. If only I stayed asleep for a little longer.

Ready for the twist?

So I get out my laptop and start browsing OCUK and going through threads in GD when something stops me dead. Out of the corner of my eye, I notice a wardrobe at the end of my bed. The same wardrobe that was in my dream. I look at the curtains - the same murky brown curtains. I look at the ceiling - the same dirty patch. The bedroom in the castle, the one in which the woman was murdered, was the exact same bedroom as my actual bedroom. As in, the bed I was lying in right then. It's about this time I went into a pinching frenzy to make sure that I was actually awake!! I put on some music and left my room, just to stop any evil 'I am actually still dreaming' scenario, but nope, nothing has happened to me..... yet

So yeah, that's my weird spooky dream... I don't think they come much more vivid or 'twisty' than that! Anyone else have anything similar happen to them?

You know you could do a Stephenie Meyer writer of the Twilight Saga (and yes that's how she spells her first name) and actually turn this into a book :p (The main castle story that is.)

Haven't read the entire thing yet but a question immediately cropped up. I constantly dream where things are in a different language to those I can read/write/understand.

Is it just jibberish or have I subconsciously learnt it?! Obviously the latter would be great but it's weird how....'real' (sorry..) it feels.

Freaky and enjoyable read. I've had some very strange dreams throughout my life, nothing I could rationalise enough to share though, just random weirdness.:o

Hey! If your room is also her room maybe she'll visit you tonight for a bit of ectoplasm exchange!

Well I read it, :D Good dream, like the twists, especially the dirty patch.
Glad to hear I am not the only one to be hunted down in their dreams, sorry to say. :D
I am usually always alone in my dreams though, :( at least I do not have to suffer my friends or relatives being slaughtered. :)

Haha, then maybe I'll just move house :p

Well you clearly need to go deeper.

Is that lucky or unlucky?

I don't think my evil room is helped by the painting that is hanging outside my doorway. I'm not kidding, look what came with my student flat:
