HD6790 being launched

Bad move ATI, just flood the market with you're 6850's, no need to go creating a competitor for the crappy GTX550-TI.

Yeah was gonna say, probably won't be hugely slower then the 6850 (800 v 960SP but with the 6790 having higher clock speed) but in other areas like VRAM bandwidth closer to the 6870... what an odd and pointless mixture - took me a moment to get my head around it and I generally know what I'm talking about GPU wise.

It seems that card might be decent for overclocking and it might be unlockable too:

http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/item/22273-amd-radeon-hd-6790-is-a-great-overclocker

i still dont get why they sell cards with shaders locked and unusable until a simple bios flash, they known enthusiasts can do it, why not just leave them unlocked and sell it at the same price as a higher card ie, 6950/70
? wait that doesnt make sense, but like if a 6950 is using the same shaders basically as 6970, why do they lock them on 6950 but sell the unlocked version at a higher price with some more ram slapped on, im confused D:

These cards sound like they are 6870 rejects that didn't make the grade hence why there's shaders that might be locked out and there maybe up to two 6 pin power connections.
