I've been burgled, WTF!

A laptop stolen, every door and window was locked and no sign of forced entry.

You don't need the cops, you need Jonathan Creek.

Maybe she broke the laptop (spilt some tea or coffee over it) and in a panic hid it, and fabricated a story that it's been stolen...

Maybe that's only something my own missus would do... :D

Oh or the local ghost took it.

What type of lock do you have on your entrance doors? They could have bumped the lock, an easy method that involves a generic key and the end of a screw driver.

is this a picture of your missus?

Creek would get you the answer after maybe three weeks of half arsed investigation. What you need is Poirot on the case, not only would you get the case solved but also get to enjoy his witty charm for a few days in the mean time.

But seriously, how do you windows lock? is it possible for them to appear locked if they were to be closed from the outside?

Are you sure the door was locked, what kind of lock do you have? My neighbour was burgled mid day last week, as she left the front door open as forget to lock it, god knows how they knew, more likely just trying their luck.

Have any of you lost keys recently?

Was the laptop in plain sight through a window if it was left in the middle o the front room?

How long were you both out for today?

Who else has a set of keys?

indeedy... you could possibly tell if there is a dent in the lock where the shoulder of the key touches the lock...--- bump keys only apply to "flat" keys... but are very easy to make.. if you're concerned about insurance, you could get a locksmith to inspect the lock... im not sure of the costs involved in a forensic locksmith though...

No scratches on lock, just a standard Yale lock so not as secure as others. No footprints on windowsills or anything. I'm perplexed to say the least. My pc was on when the gf got home and I'm pretty sure I shut it down this morning, but I might've left it on. Nothing in ff history to suggest they were on it. If the door were broken I'd feel better but knowing someone can just walk in and take stuff freaks me out a bit. Gonna pick up a netbook for her from work tomorrow. Csi coming tomorrow to be as baffled as us I suspect.
