Hey Lads,

Whats the current oppinion on the best 120hz monitor?

I'm currently using a BENQ FP241W which was very good a couple of years ago and still is but I really want to move to 120hz mainly for FPS but it would be nice to try the whole 3d thing out.

The best for fps gaming are still the samsung / viewsonic 22" ones if your talking about seriously competitive play but as far as anything outside that is concerned, they'd all feel amazing compared to anything 60hz from a response pov. Theres no such thing as a bad 120hz lcd :)

check the bay for a second hand one?.

i have not used the 3d on mine yet but very smooth for gaming :D

i have one on the bay (used);)

Might have to have a little look :D

You mean the 23 inch W2363D? I dubbed the 'bar' its hypnotic smile. :p

Yea haha. Im leaning towards getting this one

Might be worth waiting on the new 120hz Samsungs that are due out "soon".

From the looks of things, it doesnt look like the new samsungs are wallmountable due to that weird stand. (I think im thinking of the right ones)

I couldnt really tell a whole lot of difference between 120hz and 60hz, preferred the image quality on a pva monitor so i sold my alienware and went back.

Emperors new clothes im afraid.

strange, i can only suggest your screen my have been in 60hz mode and not switching to 120hz because it`s even noticeable the first time you move your mouse or move some windows around.I`ve sometimes had games that leave the screen in 60 hz mode despite selecting 1920x1080.Also i assume your graphics card had the power to play stuff at 120 fps.

One thing 120hz screen`s most certainly are NOT,is the emperors new clothes.

I use the 120hz Asus for 3D gaming, which it's great for but if I was playing in 2D I wouldn't put up with a TN panel, i'd prefer a nice big IPS.

i had a dell wa2209 loved it ips was so much better than the tn panel i had but have read tn panels are better now

If had to choose between IPS/PVA vs 120hz TN then I'd choose the former every time. You just get a much cleaner, crisper and more pleasant image overall.

120Hz is fantastic in FPS games, especially when sniping (though bearing in mind that not all people can see the difference) but I'd never sacrifice panel quality for it. When a PVA 120hz panel pops up though I'll be first on that bandwagon :).

Don't hold your breath. Certain limitations mean that we may never see that kind of technology adopted for PC monitor use I'm afraid. OLED technology will hopefully be the answer to many of our prayers but I don't see a short-term solution bridging the gap.

Definitely not mass market, but what do you think about this one?

EDIT: Big unfortunate 'lol'. I bookmarked that link ages ago and just looked at it again - not true 120Hz just fake frames :(. Boo :(.

Indeed. Posted about that one here. It got a lot of people excited until they read a bit deeper into it. :(
