***** The Crysis 2 Thread *****

i want to know - are the graphics options hard or soft coded? eg if im running a 4500 or crossfire 6950's will i get the same 'advanced', or does the game recieve an input from my hardware? Im away from my pc till tomorrow but iv bought the game and im looking forawrd to seeing how it looks at 2560 on the darkmattertron

Has anyone found a way to disable the Crytek/Nvidia intro movies?

It's frustrating that you must sit through them every time.

just played a few rounds online.

MP is really good when you can play on a good server without any cheaters.

In one game i was 9/0 thinking 'wow, i'm doing great'. I ended up 10/8:D
On another game i was, at one point, 0/7, i ended up 14/9. strange how i do well in bits on this!

BTW, i agree with everyone that the SP GREATLY improves about 4 1/2-5 hours in. Really enjoyed the last few levels:)

I would love to be able to play this, but at the moment, I get flickering all the time on my 6990, I managed to play about 30 mins last night before I went into a coma from all the flickering and woke up in my own drewl :(

Anyone managed to fix this damn flickering?

1.2 Patch literally just came out :)

snip*

Nice bunch of fixes and balancing there :)

Accidently linked to the old Crysis lol. But an update did just come out.

Really enjoying this game (both single and multi player).

Plays at a constant 60 FPS on VERY HIGH settings 1080p with rig in sig.

If I put it on EXTREME it plays fine at about 50 FPS for about 30 seconds until the GFX drivers crash and restart, it doesn't crash the game, it goes black screen and flashes and then works again.

I already know the 560 drivers are a bit dodgy at the moment, just have to wait for better ones... (and unified ones too so I can use one of my old 260's as a Physx Card!!!)

Completed SP once on Veteran and now playing through on Post-human Warrior and searching for the collectables.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that all the suit upgrades from my first play through were still active.

Upgraded cloak is OP and I LOVE it! :D

It may not look as pretty as Crysis 1 but it sure feels like a game now and not some GFX benchmark with stuff to shoot in it.

lol textures don't go high res with the tool.

I completed it and found it to be nothing more than a linear COD clone, my score...4.5. How I missed the open world of crysis with all the playable vehicles and great destruction and physics, crysis 2 fails on so many counts.

Lol, yeah the tool doesn't make the textures more hi-res but getting rid of the vaseline blur does at least let you see the textures:D

i couldnt disagree more,i hate it when people say that crysis was just a benchmark and not a good game,ok it wasnt perfect but i saw it as a game that gave me a lot of freedom to tackle situations in which ever way i wanted instead of funneling me through a corridor of enemy's,people have gotten too used to the whole highly scripted aaa game, look at crysis 2 you cant enter one of the small "open" areas without the suit telling you what to do.
i dont want to sound like a nob here but look at some of the things that have been implemented into games recently, auto braking in racing games, recharging health and simple and one button modes in games like vanquish and bayonetta.

I installed the game this evening, and it is *very* pretty. I prefer the new suit mechanics as it makes using stealth much easier. On the higher difficulties combat is quite difficult, so no complaints there. Performance is excellent, I've got it on extreme and it's butter smooth. I'm not worried about the exact frame-rate, what matters is it feels as smooth as many lesser games, and is much, much better performing than Crysis.

The only custom tweaks I've made have been to increase the FOV to 80, turn off mouse acceleration and smoothing, and disable the intro movies and initial logon.

It is however very 'casualised' with on-screen prompts all the time telling you what you can interact with, and the suit nagging you to do things. I wish there was a way of turning off all the basic help messages that you see over, and over again.

It's definitely been designed from the ground up for consoles in terms of the linear experience and size of the levels. Does that make it a bad game? No, it's the prettiest linear shooter I've seen, and is miles ahead of CODBLOPS in both graphics and gameplay. Does it make it a better game than Crysis? No, not really - it's not in the same league in terms of scale and freedom.

My biggest complaint is the checkpoint save system. It makes experimenting with different tactics very frustrating, and I hate having to repeat large sections of gameplay over and over again.

Yeah, did you really have that much freedom in Crysis though??
I don't see any difference in the games in that respect. Crysis might have had more of an illusion of freedom, but that is all that it was imo.
I think you have pretty much the same level of freedom on Crysis 2 tbh.:)
Ther was more freedom in Crysis, but not much more

Yeah, did you really have that much freedom in Crysis though??

Yeah you did, you don't get much more dumbed down and linear than crysis 2, granted COD takes the Gold in that area. In crysis on most levels you could tackle objectives in many different ways, in CR2 it's hit checkpoint A..B..C...zzzzzz. The lack of vehicle play and destruction brings it even more down in to the COD gutter.

Where did I say that Crysis 1 was "not a good game" ??

PERSONALLY, I found Crysis 2 to be more of a game and less of a GFX show than it's predecessor.

For example, I completed it without stopping and staring at a leaf for 3 hours or going in and out of the water and watching the water drip down the visor in different directions and trying to work out if it was random or there was a pattern to it, again, for 3 hours :D

Having now had a second 1hr session in the game, I have too say it is a very good cinematic experience, and the aliens look bloody amazing!

Also the vehicles are better than in crysis 1. The atol (i think its called) now has right click missiles!!! Pure ownage!

However..... the aliens have nothing in common with the aliens in crysis 1.

Is there any story overlap at all?

after 2-3 hours, i will say that it was getting repetitve, but after the bit where you break some kind of.....(i can't even remember what happens, it was only a few hours ago:D) you have to smash open cores that are on the big alien thing:D. After that, the game really does go up a level, and the gameplay greatly improve imo.

No nedd for spoiler alert, as the story isn't much anyway, and i wasn't even sure what i was doing, or why i was doing it!!!
i am enjoying Single player now though

edit- the bit where you go inside the alien structure and integrate your suit with them, or something:D

Is that bit before or after you upload a virus to the mothership?
