hard limit £90 which card

yep, 5830 is the best at that price.
Cable wise, unless I am much mistaken the reference 5830s needed two 6 pin power connectors to run properly, as do the 5850 and 5870

Tell him to sell his grandma and stretch his limit to the Sapphire 5850.. It's £108!!

But hey, 5830 is a great card too, either way you're a winner.

not bad for 4 and a half monkeys

4 and a half monkeys = 2500quid. a monkey is 500

twenties are refered to as a score or a pony (well pony is 25 quid in actual fact but often people say ponu when they want an express lend of a 20 note)

:D

What PSU?

not sure yet, i will be checking over the weekend.
his currant card is or should i say was :( a nvidia 8800 gts 512.
and the rest of his system, a intel 2180@3Ghz, 4Gb ram, p31 chipset MB, samsung F4 320Gb and a 1680x1050 monitor. as far as i remember.

but anandtech bench shows the 5830 only using an extra 40w running crysis, and thats against the 8800gt, so not entirely accurate in this instance.
thinking about it didnt the g92 8800gt use slightly less power than the g92 8800 gts.

If he's not fussed about second hand it might be worth looking into finding a GTX285, and he can treat you to a few pints with the leftovers :D

actually after looking, it seems the 8800gt uses 105w against 135w for the 8800gts according to this so it should power it fine.

Saw a 4890 Vapor-X on a well known auction site for £75 buy it now. If you don't mind 2nd hand that will knock the proverbial socks off of a 5830. Quiet cards too, had one for 1 1/2 years - was very good.
