You can't transmit AIDS anyway. AIDS is something that develops in a person that has contracted HIV.

One of my biggest pet peeves is the good old Catholic Church who go around putting the fear of god into an incredibly religious country and have the nerve to preach using condoms is a sin while AIDs is killing so many people ever year over there.

It honest to god sickens me, but the worst thing is church/religious groups have been so involved in "charity" work that many other charities work through religious charity organisations because they are established there so its easier to get permission to travel around, live/work/bring in supplies and the like which just makes it worse as they'll say, "we'll help you get permits, permission, etc, but only if you don't hand out condoms either".

There are plenty of people there working as hard as they can but ultimately the reason the church established missions all over the world was, frankly, to spread religion and gain power/money, not actually to help. Though the people who volunteer now do it just to help they are still somewhat bound by the rules.

As for mosquito's spreading it, if they did 90% of Africa would be infected by now, and as mosquito's are pretty common worldwide, we'd all be completely screwed.

While I agree that Catholic Church policy on condoms is ridiculous (and changing btw), I would point out that they preach abstinence, which would if followed also stop the spread of HIV infection, as well as a myriad of other issues that condoms don't address.

So if the so-called deeply religious people will not listen to the church on abstinence, why on earth will they use condoms if they don't want to even if the church hands them out.

Simply blaming the Catholics for the poor up-take of condom use is disingenuous, especially as there are many other agencies such as UNFPA supplying them and that it is an issue of provision, availability of supply and individuals refusal to use them that is the real issue along with the Pharmaceutical industries focus on testing antivirals rather than supplying condoms that also contributes to the problem.

Catholics are a major problem, not in that they don't teach about condoms or supply them, but instead they try and go with abstinence, which would work if everyone genuinely attempted it but it has been proven time and time again that Catholics them selves cannot let alone the people who simply identify as Catholic because of geography or family ties.

The Catholics then spread lies about condoms and cut funding to any clinics that do supply condoms or abortions, they are also helping fund fundamentalist politicians who are hell bent on executing gays. So even if preaching about abstinence was effective for practising Catholics (which it isn't), they are stopping the non Catholics receiving genuine advice on sex and condoms.

Catholics are backwards and organised religion it self needs to be stamped out so we may advance as a population. Evolution requires it and it is slowly happening one step at a time, I just wish there was a way of speeding it up a bit.
