2600k Stock Temperature?

I've just installed my setup.
Sandybridge 2600k 3.4ghz
Asus Sabertooth P67 Motherboard
And the Corsair Obsidian 800d case.

Right now as i'm typing this message, my
CPU Temperature is 44 celcius
Onboot it gets to 61 degrees. and in the Bios it was reading 60 degrees aswel before booting up
CPU fan is running at 1600 - 1800RPM.

I was just wondering whats the normal operating temperature for this chip? And what would you recomend using to put it under load? So i can get a reading of it being stressed?

Run Prime this will give the cpu some load and able to check temps.

What cpu cooler are you using and software to check temps.

Welcome to the forums :)

61c in bios is very high indeed.

Use latest realtemp to measure temps and prime 95 stress the cpu

Normal idle is high 20s low 30s and max you should be aiming for around 60c or a bit higher (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=18219146&postcount=156)

What cooler do you have? If stock one then be careful as prime95 will get it very hot.

Temps all depend on room temp. Idle temps mean nothing really its load temps that count.

What fans do you have in the case as its not the best for air cooling ( got one myself) and needs extra fans added to keep temps down.

Hey, Thanks for the quick replies!
the CPU cooler is the Stock I7 2600k one which comes with the Sandybridge.
The Corsair just has it's standard 3 fans on, But I've had my windows open all day, and my rooms actually pretty cool, and the case temperature is reading at 30 degrees apparently, but theys no way in this world that it's that high. Feeling it I'd say it's more like 10 - 15 degrees in there, If that, It's quite chilly.

Also, When i first installed, I applied thermaltake TG - 2 Thermal Grease, which i know isn't one of the best pastes out there, it's what i had lying around. And i spreaded it which I've read is a no no.... so thought this might have been the problem, putting too much on.. But I've cleaned heatsink/processor off, reinstalled the thermal paste (5mm BB size blob)
And I'm still getting the same temperatures.

Anyways, after 5minutes of use... I'm getting the following temperatures.

CPUID Over 4 cores... 37/43/28/42

It says the max they've been at since it's been installed (this was before i reapplied the TG) 42/45/33/45

and the minimum they've been at... 37/42/27/41.

Asus Thermal Radar is giving me a reading of 42 - 44c
and 31 on the motherboard

Will run Realtemp in a minute and edit post.

Definitely buy a non-stock cooler, clean the thermal paste off the CPU, carefully apply a tiny amount of good quality thermal paste to the CPU and then re-assess.

I did this with mine and temps dropped from 35'C min idle temp to 26'C.
For load, temps dropped from 71'C to 52'C... a HUGE difference.

I was using a Corsair 700D (terrible terrible for airflow).

Cooler-wise, i'm using a Noctua NH-D14 with it's stock fans on (good air flow and very quiet).

Download prime95 to give the cpu a workout as they are the temps that count not idle/desktop use.

Keep an eye on them tho while you are running it as they will go high with only the stock cooler on.

I'm letting Prime95 do a benchmark test at the moment, most i've seen it reach is 63...

But going to try the torture test in a minute, soon as it hits 75 i'll kill the test before i kill my processor lol. will see how it goes.

I've been planning on buying the Corsair H70 hydro sealed unit. But spent £800 last week, so cant afford just yet, and due car and bike insurence in a few weeks aswel :(.

Didn't enjoy that one bit... Just ran Prime 95.. "Torture Test" 5 Seconds it was sat on 65 degrees, and I'm sat there smug. thinking "It's alright this" Then it climbs every 2 seconds... Got to 71 degrees and stopped a bit for a few more seconds... Then reached 75.. So i closed the program with the X and realised it's still running in the background, Paniced and forgot it's bloody name to kill it in processes! lol.
Anyways, it got to 81 degrees by the time i killed the program.

Realtemps readings 74/81/78/80 and it would have went higher without a doubt.

You shut it down by right clicking on the tray icon near clock.

Yeah i though it would hit about that on stock cooling at stock speeds.

Stock coolers have always been pretty poor. Dont think i have ever used one myself.

Even if you dont intend to overclock then a decent cooler is still a good idea.

Been a Thermalright fan myself after the ultra 120 on socket 775 so went for the Archon this time. New cooler just became available on here recently.

Not sure of it yet. Was priming for 5hrs at 4.7Ghz but not sure what the vcore was exactly (prob about 1.34v) and it hit the low 60s which is good.

Different story now as priming at 5hz at 1.44v and temps hitting high 70s.

Remember though very few games or aps will heat up you cpu like prime does so its a worst case scenario/temp same goes for gpu stress testers

I think i'll go for the h70 next month maybe. I've got an antec 900 case, was wondering if theys someway i can make the massive fan on it's lid fit on the Obsidian as an exhaust fan on top.. should cause a fair bit more air to be sucked in.

Then the h70 fan would blow from the back of the case, and that would blow in, the air it blows in shouldn't be too warm, and the big antec fan will soon get rid of it.

That is the problem with the 700 and 800d... air only enters from the rear. You need through-draught from the front to back, and for GFX, a side intake.

GPU isn't too beasty, so it shouldn't get overly hot i don't think. Running the EVGA GTX 460 SCC Superclocked 1gig one.

Funny actually, I've never looked into how the airflow on the obsidian works. So i went around with a sheet of toilet paper. and the suction is minimal. The antec 900 used to blow sheets of a4 paper all over the place if left ontop of it.

This takes a piece of tissuie, under the bottom bay it's self, theys no suction.
The back has very very little exhaust on it.
And the top has enough exhaust to suspend a piece of toilet paper.

You can add a 140mm fan at the front below the cd drive :)

Just found out that the dust filters from a TT Armour case will fit width wise just a smidge short so could be fix in place...shame mine are silver not black :(

Google for 800d fan setups and there are lots of ideas for improving it.

30 mins prime at 5ghz and maxing out at 77c...opened the window to cool room down :)

Long way to go but looking good.....time for a bit of black ops and try the cards out now :)

Im Running the Same GPU, i have a Antec 902, and with the stock Intel Cooler with case fans on low i get mid 30's idle. and got low 50's in RIFT on Ultra Setting. id reccommend reseating it! :)

Hope i've helped.

Currently i'm getting temps of 28 on the GTX, and it hasn't peaked past that. havn't really stressed it yet though.

Will try "endless City" to test it out a bit.

just got 66 degrees running Endless City, which is designed for the card above ours. So seems to have managed okay actually

i was talking about the CPU mate not the GPU. :)

All thought you meant same card as me, you said GPU in your post :P Must be that time of the night! lol :D

ahah yeah i was just giving you a comparision that im running the same GPU (As it contributes to heat within the case),

61C in the bois is Wayyy too hot for the CPU, Seriously reseat it :P

i brought an artic cooler for my cpu when i swapped my mobo to a B3 stepping.
Now i get low 30's/high 20's idle (near same as Stock Cooler) But it doesnt seem to go above 45C even when stressed in a demanding game :O But even with the stock cooler it only peaked to low 50C's So Definatly try reseating the cpu cooler :)

I've already reseated the cooler, Cleaned it off, reapplied and reseated it. :(

Still it didnt make any difference.

At the moment, i'm at 46 degrees, but the GPU has been rendering something in the Garage thingy, so that will probably heat the internals up a bit.

Anywyas, think i'm heading off for the night, catch youse in the morning :D
