Games crash unless....

Hi everyone,

My games will crash when I overclock my HD6970, unless I select manual fan control and set it to 45-50% which is far too noisy.

I left it on auto fan control, booted the game up and waited till it crashed and then checked my max temp using HW monitor and it was only 75°c. Surely that shouldn't crash a game?

Is there anything I should be doing? I have a pretty good concept of computer systems, however gaming and specialist graphic card programs aren't my thing as I've pretty new to the gaming scene.

Thanks in advance for any advice

How would that be related to fan speed though? How do I go about upping the Voltage? Do I need to use MSI afterburner or something similar for that as there isn't an option in ATI for it?

Yes, MSI afterburner. The voltage is to increase the card stability - not the fan speed.
Might not be the problem but you might aswell try. Make sure you are careful when changing the voltage

I realise voltage wont increase fan speed... that's not what I was getting at. My problem goes away if I increase the fan speed. I wanted to know what the voltage has in relation to fan speed. If it was being under powered through a lack of voltage then surely no matter how I adjusted the fan speed it wouldn't have any effect.

However. I will give it a go :)

It clearly doesn't need more volts - in fact, the opposite of that... You have too much heat, which more volts will just make worse. How is your case airflow? Do you get the same issue with the side of the case off?

The stock fan is junk basically, apart from setting fan speed manually your best bet would be buy a third party cooler.

Don't run games with v-sync on these cards would rather cook themselves rather than ramp up the fan.

He said that the card was only 75. I thought it was unstable overclock

I was thinking the same thing. My max temp is only 75°c. Surely that's not too hot, it isn't from what I've seen in these forums.

My case airflow is absolutely fine. Everything runs super cool inside my coolermaster cm690II.

Maybe your ram is overheating. Turn thr RAM clock down until stable

which games crash?

I really don't understand why AMD put such rubbish fans on their cards, they used to have cool running cards with low noise, those days are long gone.
