EA's free online battlefield has gone live. Battlefield Play4Free opened to the public this morning, combining the most popular maps from Battlefield 2 with the classes and weapons of Bad Company 2 for 32-player shootouts.

Developed by Battlefield Heroes and Battle Forge studio EA Easy, Battlefield Play4Free includes 16 different vehicles and a character progression system that allows players to earn in-game currency that can then be used to purchase equipment, abilities, and expertise. Check the launch trailer for a peek at the action:

Tried it last night, was uninstalled within 10 minutes of installing, shockingly bad gameplay wise and graphically.

When Battlefield 2 is like a few quid now, why would anyone bother with this?

Speaking of which, even clan servers seem to be marred by ungentlemanly play, eg teamkilling (at least if you're new to the server).

I was in the beta for this game, I played for about a week and gave up. It's pretty boring (opinion) and it's not exactly simple to launch the game.

installed the beta last week , played for a few minutes then switched it off,not played it since

aweful game play and below par graphics, dont waste your bandwidth

Nah I used to play BF2 religiously -

Not sure if you were aiming the comment at me or the OP, but even Project Reality servers seem to be hit and miss. Getting KO'ed at close range by the same squad multiple times (when following the leader's checkpoints) is deliberate. The atrocious load times and lack of teamwork make it rather pointless, which is a shame given the potential the mod has.

Know any good servers I should look out for?

I played in the closed beta, and I was really unimpressed with this, its like another Battlefield heroes, which in my opinion is a complete waste of money, I wouldn't waste your time with this one, play Bad company 2 or Arma II ;)

I would have only took to this game if it had original maps, I dont understand why they would just port some bf2 maps...

I would rather simply load up bf2 itself, its still graphically decent looking aswell, I dont know who this new game is for tbh.

This Beta is not NEW its been out for months.

Its basic gameplay and only has 2 maps so far.

Open beta is new (was closed up until now) and there is now a new map (so I read), I won't be playing though as I hated it.

The problem: It looks and feels like BF2 beta. Anyone who played BF2 for any length of time will be wondering after 5 min why the detail from the old maps & characters look like they're on a mobile phone and why there's not 64 players.

You can find battlefield (complete) for less than 4 quid which, frankly, is a small price to pay for the increase in payer count, visual quality and fun.

I played bf2 since the day it came out for a good 2-3 years. bfff is good for free game, regardless of its visual quality.

Saying that, I'd rather play bf2... duh.
