Could you live in the 1950s?

Yep. I'd rather live from 1930's though.

I know its partly put on, but I often watch films like 'Sink the Bismarck' and I cant help wishing people still spoke like that.

Not if I get there first with the idea's :p, I could invent a huge search engine called Froogle

Or I could remember the score of major sporting events, then lay down some bets :p

More than that mate they didn't invent the mini skirt till the 60's, In the 50's women dressed like your Granny. :(
I'm only guessing as well but I bet it was damn hard to find a girl that wanted to play the same kind of games you/we/me wanted to, Then the real big kicker, The lack of decent contraception.
Shocking state of affairs in the fifties I don't know how they survived. :( + :p

Personally, I would be much happier in the 20s/30s, of course it would take some getting used to, but I am sure that I would manage somehow. Don't much like this modern age, too fast, too much emphasis on the now, too much rushing around.. makes my head spin.. much rather go back to the days of poirot :)

Not so! Have you not seen what Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Dorothy Lamour looked like? That is what a girl should look like.

True, no birth control pills. There were latex condoms though... so that would have to do.

the 50's -90's would be stupidly easy but boring to someone from 2011

i'd imagine even someone not very bright could make a lot of money fast

My second motorbike was made in 1957 a Triumph 650 Thunderbird pre unit, I did not get it until 1972 though. I also had a 1962 Zodiac MkIII again bought in the early 70's.

No crash helmets, no seat belts, skinny cross ply tyres and drum brakes.

Apart from modern technology, I;m not sure I could cope if I went back now with the different attitudes.

I found a 1950's book recently on "office" etiquette. It was amazing about the advice and how strict everything was.

This is fun. Could you cope?

Absolutely, I see nothing wrong in that video.

How does she sign that letter at 8.40?

I couldn't cope going back to that. Everything was too strict.

The book I found from the 50's said you couldn't talk unless you were spoken to or were asking a question of your boss.

Much easier to work nowadays.

I think it would be quite nice. People were probably happier in an odd sort of way - having just come through the War

There would be a new Queen, a steel / coal / shipbuilding / railway industry that was thriving. Unemployment was relativly low - standards of living were rising - the suits looked cool and some of the cars that were on the market were amazing

Of course I would have to put up with some inconveniences, I mean having Christina Hendricks as my secretary would be absolute hell :)
