What are the best and worst international airports you've been to around the world?
For me...
Best:
Hong Kong (HKG) - Very modern, tons of shops/facilities and free wifi throughout the whole airport!
Sri Lanka (CMB) - Small but had good facilities and helpful/friendly staff. Although I did nearly get shot when I accidentally wondered into an off-limits area.
Bangkok (BKK) - This is a nice airport in theory, but I have to say I didn't feel especially comfortable, as I've heard so many 'horror stories' of people getting scammed here. But I've never had any trouble personally. And It certainly has the best places to eat of any airport I've been to.
Worst:
Heathrow (LHR) - MASSIVE queues, especially immigration. and OTT security. Staff are helpful, but not particularly friendly. (also, no smoking rooms).
Manila (MNL) - Not especially modern compared to other big airports, poor facilities (just a handful of shops selling tat), and worst of all it charges a suprise 'terminal fee' of about £12.50, so you have to pay just to get into the airport. wtf? It also had loads of hawkers trying to get you to pay extra to sit in a nicer lounge, which was quite annoying. Withdrawing cash here was a pain in the ass too, hardly any of the cashpoints accepted our cards (we tried about 10 different cards on various machines).
Egypt (CAI) - I had to transfer a flight to the next day, and when I went to the airport at Cairo staff were so suspicious about it that I almost missed a connecting flight. Also the flight ended up being delayed and announcements were only made in arabic so I had no idea what was going on or how long I had to wait. Facilities weren't bad, but I didn't find the people particularly friendly/helpful. And the smoking rooms were terrible.
