What are the best and worst international airports you've been to around the world?

For me...

Best:

Hong Kong (HKG) - Very modern, tons of shops/facilities and free wifi throughout the whole airport!

Sri Lanka (CMB) - Small but had good facilities and helpful/friendly staff. Although I did nearly get shot when I accidentally wondered into an off-limits area. :o

Bangkok (BKK) - This is a nice airport in theory, but I have to say I didn't feel especially comfortable, as I've heard so many 'horror stories' of people getting scammed here. But I've never had any trouble personally. And It certainly has the best places to eat of any airport I've been to.

Worst:

Heathrow (LHR) - MASSIVE queues, especially immigration. and OTT security. Staff are helpful, but not particularly friendly. (also, no smoking rooms).

Manila (MNL) - Not especially modern compared to other big airports, poor facilities (just a handful of shops selling tat), and worst of all it charges a suprise 'terminal fee' of about £12.50, so you have to pay just to get into the airport. wtf? It also had loads of hawkers trying to get you to pay extra to sit in a nicer lounge, which was quite annoying. Withdrawing cash here was a pain in the ass too, hardly any of the cashpoints accepted our cards (we tried about 10 different cards on various machines).

Egypt (CAI) - I had to transfer a flight to the next day, and when I went to the airport at Cairo staff were so suspicious about it that I almost missed a connecting flight. Also the flight ended up being delayed and announcements were only made in arabic so I had no idea what was going on or how long I had to wait. Facilities weren't bad, but I didn't find the people particularly friendly/helpful. And the smoking rooms were terrible.

Best:

Dubai, fantastic airport, very new had everything i wanted.

Orlando International wasn't too bad either, full of tourists though...

Worst:

Airport on Malta, about 12 years back now but was basically a few wooden shacks and you could basically reach out and touch the aircraft from our departure 'gate'.

Malpensa was an equal nightmare nowt to do.

Philadelphia International bored the socks off me.

Could list loads more but i hate waiting around, so for me airports suck.

Best - McCarran When arriving in Las Vegas

Worst - McCarran When leaving Las Vegas
or
Zante, was just a tin shed with a man powered conveyor belt.

Best was probably Vienna International Airport. It's just very clean and modern and has excellent transport links.

Worst is Gatwick. It's dirty, old, not very nice to work at either and the security officers are all jobsworths.

Least favourite/Most hated ones

Heathrow - hateful, hateful place
Seattle-Tacoma - possibly the ugliest and dirtiest airport in the western world (at least, it was the last time I was there)
Birmingham - immigration is always ridiculously slow, the parking fees are a joke, and the staff are about as helpful as telling a man with a knife in his head that he has a knife in his head

Favourite ones:

Vancouver - lovely, clean airport. Immigration are a bit on the slow side, but nowhere near as bad as B'ham
Perpignan - there's a really good café in the departures area, staff are always helpful, and I've never once had a bad landing going in or a delayed take-off going out

Best: HKG - clean, spacious, almost too spacious
Worst: LGW - small airport, looks old and dirty and full of chavs

Then again I'm not very well travelled :(

Cuba was horrible. It was a nice place, but there were so many guns, big dogs and burly guards constantly in my personal space with guns.

Best? Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Worst? Los Angeles International Airport. Terrible. Through security, two shops and an overpriced burgerking, and then the waiting room for the flight. Thats it!

Las Vegas McCarran comes to mind in being a poor one, we were delayed for abour five hours if I recall correctly and there wasn't a great deal there in terms of facilities, ironic considering how much there is in Vegas itself. It seemed very dated generally, although this was a long time ago when I was there.

Best- errr, pass? Don't remember being blown away by any airport. Some of the newer ones in the Far East look fantastic though.

Best:

Hong Kong - very nice, spacious airport

Worst:
Heathrow (apart from Terminal 5 which isn't bad)
Gatwick - busy, old, generally not the nicest place to be
Geneva - mainly because it was very busy and expensive, the actual building is ok

I forgot how **** LAX was, once you're through security there is literally nothing!
