Grrrr, stupid executive cars.

Aren't there any options that give the best of both worlds? I remember you having a load of grief with the A8 but didn't you have a good experience with a Lexus a few years back?

The solution is clearly to buy Japanese :)

This pretty much. The Japs make some fantastic cars but they are all in lower end segments really.

I cant think of a single japanese car off hand which i would even want to view, let alone buy

I know people that have had problem with Lexus, dont think they are immune, the difference is they have better customer service than the usual German bad attitude you get.

And anyway who wants a Lexus if you are spending proper money on a car.

Not even an LS600h?

No because they look **** and have a **** jap interior compared to a Bentley, BMW,Merc,Jag.

And when alls said and done if you are spending big money on a car you want a nice place to be dont you.

What's wrong with the Lexus LS?

GS just below it isn't too bad either, but a bit bland.

Or why not the Infiniti M (which is a GS competitor)?

Those are near the top end of the range surely

They just don't really do it for most people which is why Lexus UK sales are so poor.

It just seems like a Jap copy of a Mercedes rather than having anything in its own right.

Because they still cant make an interior or a car that looks stylish, its always gonna look like a Lexus, and when i see a Lexus, i think AH Toyota.

And when you see a Ferrari you think AH Fiat?

The LS and the M are both pretty neat inside

The relationship is somewhat difference - Ferrari did not spend years making Fiats and changing the badges over, Lexus did.

Um, outside Japan (there was no Lexus in Japan) Lexus and Toyota never sold purely badge changes afaik though cars have shared a platform in the past (as you would expect since platform sharing has nothing wrong with it)

I'm not having another Lexus. With the milage I do (30k per year) I need reasonable economy and none of the Lexus range offer that. The GS450h was a possibility until I realised that it only gets good gas milage in traffic. On the motorway it's just the same as any other 3.5L V6.

I went and looked at a Skoda Superb 2.0 Elegance DSG just now. Impressive car.

Everything is wrong with them. The very poor sales agree with me. Its an annoying situation.

But here's a fun fact, we dont live in Japan so i dont give a monkeys what they think there. As for platform sharing thats great, as long as the platform you share aint rubbish.

Anyway heres a question if you were spending a lump of money, would you really buy a lexus over a Merc or a Jag?

I cant for the life of me think why you ever bought a 7 series in the first place then.

The E65 730d does get pretty good mileage to be fair, for the money there isnt really a rival :) I guess he couldnt predict that it would be such a lemon.
