There has been a few burglaries locally last week and I mentioned to the wife that I would start keeping my felling Axe under the bed in case I hear anyone in house she said I was likely to get into trouble if i whacked anyone with it?

reasonable force is ok isn't it I mean I am protecting my 2 kids and unborn baby ?

You would certainly be arrested on the grounds of pre-meditation: assault/battery/attempted-murder/murder and various offensive weapons charges.

An axe is also unlikely to ever be "reasonable force", unless head-less.

edit - just thought a one word answer is a bit bitchy :) so I'll say that you used the American spelling which is obviously the wrong one ;):p

Pre-meditated is your first issue and great big bloody axe is your second. I believe a maglite by the bedside is considered the tool of choice due to plausibility of needing it when you heard noises in the night.

Keep all your sports equipment under your bed, so if anything happens you can club them with your baseball bat ;) and then show the police thats where you also keep your tennis racket, running shoes and football :D

I have a maglite 3D. It doesnt count as premeditated as it has lots o functions. You can use it with reasonable force and it is something that you might expect to find near a bed.
Why nit get a panic putton wired to ur security system.

Just claim you thought the intruder/intruders had a weapon, best use a pick axe handle instead though. A full on axe can get you into some serious sugar if you're not careful.

Getting on topic now :) in the UK having any sort of weapon in a convenient place is asking for trouble as it would show some kind of premeditation. You can't really say you had the axe in your bedroom for any legitimate reason other than as a weapon, I'd take a guess and say the law wouldn't see that in a good light should anything happen.
