World longest Railways tunnel finished and almost

Hey cumulus I live in Switzerland too and I read about the tunnel this morning, it's a pretty amazing feat of engineering, and will really lighten the load that all those lorries caused on the motorways. :)

Do the Swiss speak French or Italian or a mixture like Fralianch?

Zurich and surrounding areas = German (predominant native language in CH).

Geneva and surrounding areas = French (2nd most popular native language).

Lugano and surrounding areas = Italian (3rd most popular native language).

4th "unoffocial" major language spoken in all regions = English.

However most Swiss speak 2-3 languages at a minimum, lucky sods.

Where in switzerland?

Meat is so bloody expensive that vegetables are everywhere, trust me on that.

Meat is expensive but in the last 5 years the price decreased of about 30 - 40%, anyway if you live next to the border ( in my case near Italy ), meat costs less ( about 50% ) than here.

Supermarket helps the local agriculture and they buy directly form peasants, so the price is high. But try me, you pay more but another taste.

Well, I don't agree that the meat tastes better in Switzerland... I had better cuts of meat and better tasting steaks etc for about a third of the price in the UK. Lamb here costs for a small joint, and a decent sized steak is often around Are they and better than a hunk of Welsh lamb, or an hunk of Aberdeen Angus steak? I think not.

After being here for three years, I think the whole "Swiss quality" thing is largely a myth when it comes to food... the vegetables in UK supermarkets are also much fresher than in the average Supermarkets here. :)

Is it true that in Switzerland you have to have a bomb shelter by law?

No. :)

in another words?

They probably could have got there days sooner if they didn't smooth over one side, then painted some advertising on it :p

Very impressive feat and 35miles!!! That's like half an hour in a tunnel!

This is the scenary that we have seen several times on the Gotthard, before the motorway tunnel ( 17 km ) especially in summer. In the tunnel you can also drive at 80 km/h. Sometimes more than 3 hours wait.
