Tesco Minus Hours?

I had Union rep in with me on my first investigation meeting and his advice was in his own words "Get on the floor and beg if you have to". After the meeting he brought me outside and said that you didn't sell your self enough.You have 2 options resign now or go the whole way with it.
 
tesco are scum tbh. they are cost cutting so much in the one here that its turning into netto on steroids

shelves always empty , tills always have big queues , floor always scummy , when you talk to a manager about it they caim ''staff havent turned up'' ''lots of people on the sick'' . funny that... because my brother works there and is quite literally desperate for more hours and so are others.

Bare in mind that payroll budgets are given to the stores by the company. The managers are only allowed to spend up to their budgets.

While I don't disagree with you as I see this far too often... Tesco's budgets on everything including payroll are very finely tuned to the processes. We have a productivity department that measures every single milisecond it takes a cashier to press the total button and to scan an item etc. They measure how many tins of beans a person should be able to put on the shelves per hour etc..etc... and the model is built from that.

All it takes is one or two departments not to be following process correctly and/or efficiently and the whole 24 hour replenishment and service cycle goes out the window. Which I would guess it what you have experienced in your local shop mate.

I worked at tesco when I was at college, I must have been their worst employee still managed to stick around a year or so.

Home shopping is such a skive.

A ridiculous generalisation and completely untrue. I chose this career because it pays me in excess of £100,000 per year. I am most certainly not a drop out.

And remember... We abide by the same employment law as every other business in the UK/World therefore we have as many ways to sack a person as every other company out there.

Slave labour at the lowest level... I think Gordy will agree with me that the gulf between your bog standard CSR and Management in terms of salary is pretty huge.
 
Do you really want staff eating whilst they are baking & handling your goods ?

Never put me off, top chefs tasting cooking; then again Ainsley used to put me off tasting, then putting the spoon back in the pot, without cleaning it.

Yes it is mate... Hugely different:-

General assistant - £7.50 p/h approx
Teamleader - £8.50 p/h approx
Line Manager - £24k - £32k per annum
Senior Manager - £34k - £46k per annum
Store Manager - £55k -100k Basic salary + 30% cash bonus + shares + £700p/m car allowance
Store Director £120k - £175k Basic salary + 30% cash bonus + shares + £900p/m car allowance
Operations Director £300k - £500k Basic salary plus god knows what benefits! :eek:

Then you're on to the main board and we are talking millions a year in salary and benefits.

The variations are for experience and size/complexity of store.

Admittedly it is like night and day depending on the job role. But then the pressure that is associated with the higher paying roles is extremely intense

you mean use employment law to sack people for stupid reasons, ive heard about it so many times its rife in retail. shop workers have the worst contracts going, guess where all the drop outs from school work now, yep they are retail managers!

Can you give me an example? It's actually very difficult to sack someone these days. Knowing what I know and having to deal with this on a daily basis I can tell you with certainty that the company actually protects the employee far more than they should in my opinion.

If Supermarkets didn't exist where would these people be working? Are you forgetting the huge levels of unemployment out there at the moment?

Still a completely incorrect and infactual generalisation. The majority of our management join the graduate programme straight out of university due to the excellent starting wage. Which iirc is the second highest paying average starting wage in the country. I seem to recall that Aldi actually top us ever so slightly for average 'straight out of university' earnings.

Yes this beats the average starting wages for accountants, solicitors and even bankers. The majority of Store managers do it for the money, not because they are 'drop-outs.' :confused:

While I'm certain some of these 'drop-outs' as you call them do work their way up through the hierarchy I think they should be commended and not belittled as you are.

you get paid much better at tesco than you do at sainsburys :(, having said that i've known people work for both companies who say sainsburys is a better employer...swings and roundabouts I guess!

Never having worked for JS I couldn't comment mate... But I do get the impression that the pace/pressure is less than what I expererience. True or not I don't know.

I recently spoke to a friend who has just been appointed as a Debenhams store manager and he is on £42k with a similar bonus and car allowance. So I would imagine that Tesco pay their managers more than any other retailer. It stands to reason I suppose since they are number one.
