Ok, so i've said it before and i'll say it again. I'm new to watercooling so apologies if this is a dumb question! (bring on the water cooling section)

Can you use a different manufacturers backplate if the water block you are using is made by someone else?

My cards are MSI Cyclone GTX 460's (reference design) and my water blocks are XSPC Razer GTX 460's (picture one below). I want to know if I can use the EK Backplates? (picture two below)

I very much doubt it.

This is the rear of the block:

Uses different screw holes than the backplate.

I presume you want this for aesthetic purposes?

The backplate doesn't actually do anything other than look good.

That's the exact reason I want it :) I know it sounds silly but I like everything inside to look good. I just think that a backplate will look better than the bare PCB.

Hmm, well some say yes, some say no..... does anyone have any experience in doing this or a definitive answer as apposed to a presumption?

I could just buy one and try it! They are only about £17 or so.

well the screws are going to line up as it will go through you card, it will depend more if the screws are the correct size more than anything, also the outer screws on the back plate will come with black nuts and they just bolt to the card, maybe four will go into the actual block
for reference my 480, 3 screws out of 7 go into the block, the rest just bolt through
