More insurance woes - 20% increase expected in 2012

Just renewed my missus insurance. 2002 Nissan Primera SVE. 709 with swiftcover. Shes 25 with 2 years driving, 1 fault claim (For skidding into a garden no damage to car but ruined a flower bed ;) ). This is only £50 more than last year with 1 years no claim. I was very suprised as most quotes were coming out £1200 on price comparison sites.

Swift cover have sent my renewal. Last years monthly payments were £38, this year they want £90pm.

Time to give them a ring i think and tell them 'I don't get the joke'

swift cover has said "sorry main driver is too young for us to cover" I can't see anything on their site saying they only deal with over 25s?

I'll be 23 ffs on a car that is nothing special, that ive owned for 3 years.

I think they have a rule with the insurance group of a car and the persons age, I have been with them for 3 years I changed my car last year when I was 25 to my celica, but again its still quite a low insurance group was £400 last year with 7yrs no claims, hopefully it won't be anymore than that this year, especially as I have done less than 2k miles over the past 9 months :D

well i did a quote last night, and despite all these doom and gloom stories, it has dropped nicely.

Was £1200 last year, £870 this year. If i change the NCB from 1 to 3 and remove the fault claim it only makes £150 of difference! Puts the whole trying to keep things out of insurance into perspective when it only costs that little more.

On the other hand, my gf with 4 years NCB and no claims ever has had a 35% increase in insurance on her 2003 1.2 Micra, and can't find it anywhere as cheap as last year!

EDIT:

Down to £811 now, if i park my car on my street it knocks £60 over parking it on my drive :s £960 if i want to park it in my garage! Remarkably backwards tbh.

Also, every time I renew or get a new quote with Admiral, they always ask the value of my car.. so I always give them what it would cost me to get a replacement - so this year I said £9,000. As soon as you've told them that - they reply saying "oh, that's not the book figure we have here - we have £6,000". At which point I politely point out that there isn't a single car for sale at that price, to replace this car would cost £9,000. To which they reply "Oh, Ok - we'll put £9,0000 in". Now I'm guessing they record these calls, and I'm also guessing that if you make a claim they'll go back over them - and at this point if you don't pull them up on under valuing your car then you're going to get owned if they ever have to pay out?

the only way you can get paid out 9k is on a agreed value policy which you normally have to pay extra for.

else they will just go off book value, or the prices they see on autotrader for example.

you could put the value of the vehicle as £50k, doesnt mean your gonna get that if its written off

I'm with Swift Cover, they're a load of ****. claim for Windscreen? no NCB. car a write off? no oppertunity to buy it back.. :/

I've just done a quote for my renewal next week, best i found is with privilege, £790 for my 525D. 5 yrs ncb, my partner as added driver - 25 with a malicious damage claim in 2009. I don't think that's too bad actually. But most i've ever paid still.

I pay £660 fully comp for the Swift sport,

26yrs old, 5yrs NCB, No claims and 3 points, Parked in secure car park, 6000 miles a year.

My biggest problem is post code (SR2) if I lived say in my old address still (SR6) it comes down to about £500. Looking to move back over that side of Sunderland anyway.

Where I have noticed an increase is when getting quotes on different cars, I've been looking at the 2.0 sport Mk3 MX5. Was getting quotes of about £800 fully comp (which I could live with) but they are now all over £1k.

Could more than likely get it under £1k with some shopping about. Still pretty pricey :(

YOU TAKE THAT BACK!!1!!11

lol, well they're really not are they? 9 years old and takes >6 seconds to get to sixty. Don't get me wrong it's a nice motor and there's nothing i'd rather have without adding 15k to it's value, but it's hardly a widow making beast

Mine went up by £150 to a total of £1350 at my renewal a few weeks back, shopped around and found it for £670. Half the price which I was very pleased about :) I do wonder how new drivers can afford to insure anything. My ex's brother was paying 4k on a Mk3 Golf 1.4...

You've managed to crash it enough times though Tom :p

and all of mine have been slow speed bumps rather than crashes :p Ones that the performance of the car have actually no effect on. Infact the only PROPER crash ive been in was in a 1.6

I crash like a girl.

You dont think 800 quid for a 525d is bad!?

On my own it's £600 with swiftcover, the fault claim my partner had doesn't help, neither does the fact i work in a licensed premises, and annual mileage of about 18k too. I won't lie on the forms either.

I was paying just over 600 for the mondeo with my partner on it.

Meh.

Got renewal quote for Golf a few weeks back, premium had almost doubled. Shopped around, managed to get it for less than I was paying last year.

Got renewal quote for the Estima the other day, slightly up on last year but shopped around and guess what? Managed to almost halve it.

throw some more insurance companies at me, adrian flux, directline, peter best and anyone that lists on gocompare are all completely out, the only person being slightly competitive is the admiral group! (admiral £811, cheapest second quote >£2k)
