Thinking about a BMW 7 series

Ok so at the moment I don’t think we have the optimal lineup of cars:

Wife E93 335i
Me E92 335i
Runaround for moving stuff 2.0 TDCI mondeo.

Its rather pointless having 2 of the same cars, my wife likes big cars I personally would never want anything bigger then a 3 series (a 1 series would be better).

So I think I can get around 16k for the E92 (which is what I paid my dad for it) and was I thinking about getting a 750i or 730d.

I would prefer the 750i but I would be willing to settle for the 730d I think at maximum I will do 15k miles per year and would like to keep the car for around 3 years.

Max budget is 20k but I would rather spend around 17.5k. I am looking for a 07/08 and no more then 60k on the clock.

So is there anything I should look out for? is the 750i going to cost me a lot more to run?

A couple that I found

This one ticks all the boxes but its a little over budget but I may be able to get them down a little.

I'd have an XF or a late last model XJ over a 20k 7 series.

just a general question here, in terms of equipment etc what does the 7 offer that the e60 doesnt?

to be fair, you'd have <insert any jag> over <insert any beemer> though

Nearly, if i was spending 10k i wouldnt give a monkeys what i got, whichever was in the best condition for the money.

For 20k now its different, an XF for example despite being a slight size down on a 7 series does drive a mile better, and a late last model XJ drives as well but is just a nicer place to be in my opinion.

I am a massive jaguar fan. I discounted the XF because it does not seem to offer good value for money used. If I was looking for a new car I would probably get a XF as it seems to hold it value very well.

XJ, my biggest concern is that I assume they are not the most reliable of cars and it would cost me more to keep on the road. Do jaguar offer a comprehensive extended warrantee?

Yea they do and they are also every single bit as reliable as a BMW/Merc whatever.

This money would buy you a W221 S500.

Miles better than a 750i. I dont get the BMW choice at this budget at all. Its not good enough to warrant the spend in my opinion.

Thats what im saying at 10k its a lot car for the money, at 20k you are open to better things.

A Mercs a good shout too.

I am open to suggestions, the S-class would be my first choice of car but at 20k they all have moon ship milage on them.

I will have a look for both a XJ and S-class

Id take a moonship S-Class over a low mileage 7-series.....

W221 is fairly bombproof, unless you care about ease of resale ignore the odo and go for condition :)

Slightly off topic DM, what year is your SL500 and what is on its odo?

2004 with 75k, the history book is lost, but it did turn up in Mercedes for a service last year showing 69k so im inclined to believe the miles are right.

There are also a couple of confirming old MOT's.
