Comfortable with rear seats for 3k ... what would you get?

With the MR2 soon getting some major mods done to it it is no longer really suitable as a daily driver (and with just 2 seats and no luggage space even more so)....

So if you had 2.5-3k to play with, what would you get that is comfortable for longer journeys, reliable and has usable rear seats?

Mondeo? Though they look a bit boring though

e46? Certainly very tempting

e39?


Or some small SUV/estate to have more space for carrying car parts

The early smaller engined ones are certainly well within that, and look (from pictures at least) as half decent examples



I want something where the miles will just waft along, kinda like they did in my old Celica (but with rear seats this time), rather than the smaller hatches (such as a Focus) where I would still drive the balls of it

Good job I didn't mention all 3 then, as I only mentioned the 1st two.

My MR2, ones all the mods are in place will more than make up for c) :D


And I disagree, you can get an Accord Type R for that money, and they are certainly reliable, comfy and can be pretty fun

not sure what you could have that would satisfy this...
 
Do you know which end of a spanner is which? Surely a E39 (Touring for parts carrying) wouldn't be too bad of a shout if you don't mind getting your hands dirty once in a while.

Or a very late Omega?
 
I just have visions of everything for a BMW (part wise) being more expensive than it needs to be for some reason

I also have visions of BMW reliability not being as high as say Honda or Toyota (both of which brands have never failed on me as yet)

Because I came close to selling the MR2 a few weeks ago and getting an 200SX for some Jap turbo power

But in the end, I just enjoy driving the MR2 FAR too much, especially in this weather with the top down. And I love the way the car handles, even in stock form with not enough power.
Instead I'm going for some modifications for the MR2, starting with suspension at the moment with stuff for the engine planned down the line too.


End of the day Fox, different people want different things from their cars. I could probably live with the harder ride that the MR2 will have with the new suspension, but it's not the ideal car to go spend time with a girl in (no luggage space or rear seats), and given the utterly **** quality of our roads makes it even worse for anything bar a fun blast

Just of curiosity, what can I have for 3k that doesn't cost a fortune to insure, isn't rotten all over and ticks those 2 boxes? :)
I was thinking clio 172 for a start, what ware the other candidates
 
Mazda 6 ? Don't know if a decent mps is available for that money but the 2ltr petrol is slow and lumpy, I sold my 54 diesel for 2600 good car
 
Why not just a normal accord if you don't need fun? You'd then get more reliabiliy for your money, parts would be cheaper and you must be OK with the looks if you are considering the type-r.
