Hey guys,
I have an alienware aurora R3 sandybridge desktop and i ordered it with an ATI 6870

my question is is there anything else worth upgrading to with a max £250 budget, thats gonna give me better bang for buck, i was thinking of getting another 6870 and CF but my worry is the two would be very close together ( although dell had this as an option but couldnt afford it at the time)

or a 2GB 6950:D

me problem is looking at reviews most upgrades are only going to give me an extra 5-10 fps (is that worth it)

obviously its for gaming like crysis 2 and il2 Cliffs of dover and cod black ops

also for 3d gaming and movies, when my sammy 27" SA950 arrives:D (onces released in the UK lol)

was my thinking also, so thanks for that:D, can i get any 6870 or does it have to have the same clocks etc, and do all 6870's CF?

i believe mine is a stock one,

They all Crossfire and you can use any 6870.

I believe that if the cards run at different speeds the fastest is down clocked to the slowest.

You might as well buy another standard card or if you buy a faster one then overclock your existing card to match.

6870s in XFire are absolute BEAST! You will not be dissapoint!

:D:D never had the money for CF/SLI but as i got the system on tick! i think i deserve a treat he he

They run independent clocks.
Jesus, the "They downclock" is still going on?...

He is asking why people keep saying that in crossfire if 1 card runs at a higher speed than the second it will clock down to the slower cards speed which is not true. Crossfired cards run at there own speeds and do not clock down. In sli the faster card will clock down to the speeds of the slower card.

People seem to think because sli does it so does crossfire but its not true.

Thank you for the serious answer to my not so serious comment.

Exactly.
This has gone on for ages.
I've been correcting people for no less than a year and a half..
