Can we have a sub-forum for religious discussion please?

My points have been valid, Rotty. Why are they not valid? They were with regard to improving the forum on a strong level. You can't get much more valid than that.

Moderating quality discussions are for offline

The religious sub forum debate has been dealt with, please read my posts, they were your 2 points, they were answered

To be fair if you read my request thread it was locked before I received an answer. I was still wondering until you posted that what the decision actually was. :)

Pretty sure it was answered that SC was the place for those sort of discussions. At least I recall reading that.

Rotty, perhaps it is worth giving a religious sub-forum a trial run and see if it works?

The humour and undercurrent of GD itself isn't necessarily trolling but more acerbic humour. Being a forum, everything is for debate. Although my point regarding the original poster outlining that they do not want such farce/debate in their thread may not stop it altogether, having a sub-forum specifically for such debate, may. In such a scenario, the Easter thread could have remained on-topic with the moderators pointing out that although no rules were broken, the place for such debate is in that sub-forum itself and not the thread in question.

A trial-run won't kill anyone, will it?

I wasn't aware of that, the decision was that there will be no sub forum but the title of SC will be changed

apologies if that was not communicated

Thundycat said something like that yes. But a lot of dons etc had input. I asked if that was the DR decision or just his opinion, and the thread was locked due to derailment.

Didn't say it wasn't an opinion, just a pointless one that was going to poke the hornets nest a little.

Where other religions special days are observed people are a lot more accepting and either post good wishes or ignore the thread. But then those religious days are not now known more for a freaky big bunny that hides chocolate eggs (and lets be honest, eggs are now more about what extras you get in the box more than just the egg!).

People were posting with relevence to what the day means to them, which is 'general discussion', surely.

In the quoted post I was referring to the "Zombie Jesus" posts prior to it.

That holds no relevance to Easter other than to be irreverent and boorish toward the OP and others.

In fact my first post in that thread was a simple "Happy Easter".

In that context the post you quote as the basis of your OP was not 'pointless' although I respect your opinion on it, I don't agree with it.

That was the DR decision, as above sorry if that was not clear

Fair play Rotty. I think the point we wish to make is that (1) we accept the DR decision, (2) We're happy to use a renamed SC for any such proper discussion, but that (3) some thread still don't fit (eg Squark's simple 'Happy Easter' post) but they should still be afforded firm protection from blatant and admitted insult, trolling and general nastiness.

Nobody, regardless of belief, deserves to be treated or talked to like that. As I said I'm personally not Christian or similar, but I do enjoy a discussion on spiritual and philosophical matters and respect all viewpoints. We only ask that certain anti-theists return the favour. It's not hard to be civil, and as mum would say 'If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all'. :)

Absolutely agree
