Hi everybody!
Just registered in your forum since i saw some good threads already and found them quite helpful, i am glad of being part of it now.
I would need your help with something that is burning my brains.
History:
1-bought msi hd 6950 (modded with hd6970 bios)= incredible performance.
2-at the same time had different problems/circumstances:
a) one day by mistake i unmade the cpu overclock then i restored (e8400 3ghz @ 4 ghz)
b) started to play with Afterburner, osd monitoring,etc..(to see gpu temp)
c) changed the msi ventilation and installed the thermalright shaman (amazing performance....full below 50º)

The problem was that i realised that now, crysis 2 was working between 29-45 fps in extreme at 1920*1080, when before it was between 45-60 fps average)

Obviously i started with the paranoia, and tried many things: drivers 11.3 / 11.4 / windows format / etc..checked the cpu oc / and then i realised about 2 things:

1) gpuz shows the core and memory freqs but in sensor it reads everything fine but in VREG temp it keeps all the time at 254.5º obviously this is not real...but cannot change that value (even i restored with another 6950 bios)...everything changes but that.

2) with the afterburner i can see that the core freq although i can change it,then in monitoring i can only see MAX 500mhz...so i think that could be the reason of my drop performance now, right??

i have read many threads about that i unchecked the flash hardware acceleration...no youtube videos running...just a new windows 7 64 bits sesion...and start the game...but stucked at 500mhz...

I would like to request all your help please!

PD: i can change the core values and they will be shown in CCC /AFTERBURNER / TRIXX and ASUS smart doctor perfectly but when playing it keeps the freqs maximum at 500mhz.

thanks for the answers,but...

i know that 500mhz is the UVD clock, what i mean is that i should get those freqs in a 2d profile, right? but when playing it should be increased automatically to the top freq (by default 800mhz..with no oc)
but, unfortunately, i dont know whats going on, but even when playing and the gpu load at 100% it keeps stucked @ 500mhz.

any ideas pls?

mmm...its hard to say, i always try just after rebooting windows..could be any afterburner profile with osd monitoring??
when starting windows it loads:
ati drivers+sound drivers+avg+object desktop+tune up utilities 2011+utorrent...basically thats all...

ps: i also unchecked the hardware acceleration from the flash player...

could be any problem with the bios or something?(some days ago i also restored a 6950bios back)

ps2: the pc is connected through hdmi cable to a led hdtv samsung 46 inches...anything related in ccc with that maybe?(scale or sthing?)
thanks for the answer..i hope you can help me

are you running 2 screens? if so the idle clock will be 500mhz but shouldn't stop it clocking up to 800 mhz.

try closing all background programs.

thanks gareth,

i already reflashed with a msi 6950 bios that unlocks the shaders...could be anything related with the shaman installation?? and that vreg temp of 254.5??

u mean inside the pci-e port??i guess so...

i did not put any thermal paste between the rams/memories and the ram and vrm heatsinks is that fine like this?

Is this on the GPU itself? No proper cooling on the memory and VRM then, hence why the card is not clocking up.

i did not put any thermal paste because the ram/memories sinks they do come with some glue...although i did put some thermal paste between the gpu itself and the shaman heatsink...so should i put some paste on the rams and memories and then put their heatsinks on,right?

I remember reading that flash videos, i.e. youtube, cause some ATI cards to stay at a lower clock whilst the video is open somewhere, might be that?

i reinstalled the shaman, put some thermal paste in rams and memories...same result.
No browsers opened...open crysis 2...and gpuz shows me that the core clock does not go further than 500mhz and funniest thing...the highest voltaje keeps in 1.00V and does not reach the 1.10V (i booted with the bios in positon 2...back up bios)

And now???:confused::(

so you didnt put TIM on the ram chips? or did they have some on? as i doubt it was actuall glue on the sinks, and if the back up bios dont work, try it in a mates PC?
