I only recently bought an MSI Lighting 6970, I just fancied a new card.

I was seriously thinking of X-Firing them, then, I thought - being a very big BF fan - , hang on, BF3 is out in November, ATI and Nv will have new cards out them, am I right ?

If I am right, I'll wait to see what ATI and Nv have to offer, instead of X-firing these.

Is anyone doing the same ?

Thanks.

According to various sites/forums, the currently available videos show the game being ran on a single gtx 580.

Remember it is going to consoles as well so it won't require much more than most games that are released to all platforms, I think we are now at a point graphic card power is getting beyond what games really require which is obviously a good thing as I hated it years ago seeing my expensive pc components not really performing to what I thought they should

I don't understand some people going for the top-end spec cards and hoping that it will run a game on max settings. You'd be pretty ****** if you had spent £200+ on a card that couldn't run the game on full settings. Even more so if you plan on having multiple cards.

Im hoping my current 470's will be fine at 1920x1200, i can run bc2 no probs on highest settings with good levels of aa/af.

Should defiantly be sorted with 470 sli, I am thinking of grabbing another 480 ready for BF3 just to be sure, as with 1 480 I cannot max BFBC2 and get the performance I like so I can see it will benefit from sli

i got a 570 and has no problems on bc2 at 1080p with all settings on the highest possible including 32 aa

bf3 should be a lot more optimized than a normal console port such as bc2......... i hope:(

Yep, sli did give me some decent gains over a single card, few quick bench runs i done a while back on BFBC2.

Single stock speed gtx 470, 2 mins using fraps.

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
9127, 120000, 55, 106, 76.058

Sli stock speed.

15101, 120000, 79, 165, 125.842
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg

All ran at 1920x1200, highest settings, 8 x aa, 16 x af

I haven't really given max settings a good go as I can feel it slows down some for me and I like it a smooth as possible (I like to be above 100fps all the time, well as much as possible) so everything is medium for me, no bloom, no hsao, 2xAA, 4AF, dx10, maybe with 480 sli I can max and have smooth performance?

You have a 120Hz monitor? I am surprised you can't max it on a 480. Running a 580 here and I don't think I have seen it drop below 80 fps (max + 32CSAA @ 1080p without HBAO).

I disabled HBAO because it adds input lag, maybe this is what you feel?

No, just 60Hz, I like it above 100 so I keep it as is, it obviously drops sometimes depending on what's going on, but I am happy with medium, the only thing on high is soldiers

I am pretty sure you would be better off running it in DX11, it should run better.

It hits performance in DX11 for sure, I can definitely feel it, give medium a go for a couple of hours with DX10 and you can feel the difference after

What's the point if your monitor is 60Hz only?

I run BFBC2 at 2560x1440, works just fine with my 5850. Everything maxed out with 2xAA/16xAF applied (anti-aliasing looks about the same as it was with 4-8xAA at 1680x1050).

BTW, defiantly is not the word you should be using in this context.

Yeah DX11 is actually better optimized than both DX9 and DX10, judging from the various benches I've read if only by a couple FPS.

With a quad core and a GTX 480 it should be maxed out easy though, my GTX 460 can run it fine at 1680 x 1050 with high details, HBAO and AA at above 45 FPS on average.

Well 120Hz monitors are quite a new thing and not something I base performance on, I know there is a lot of arguments about you won't notice the difference from 60 fps to 120 fps but for me I do and it's an argument that can go on and on and on, some people wouldn't notice the difference and some do, I am one that does, and I don't really have time to admire all the details while I play anyway so eye candy I can do without, slow downs are a big no no
(fixed my terrible grammar);)

You will not notice the difference above 60 fps on a 60Hz monitor, as the monitor will only be able to refresh 60 times a second.

It is impossible to notice the difference, unless you have a higher refresh rate.
