Well if you go from paying for something in the UK then jump to Africa in the space of 12 hours that usually rings alarm bells for them.

somehow they can tell , not all the time but there are certain cases they can,

god knows how!

personally i dont think they update the firmware enough, and i would rather get new features straight away rather than wait months for them.

just got my ps3 back from repair with gt5 disc missing!!!

anyway downloading the 3.6 update and its megaslow, its never been this slow ever. i was wondering is it this slow because of all the psn hoohar going on at the moment? its the first time im using it wireless so just want to cancel that out as the problem(router is in the same room and wireless signal is 100%)

I'm so glad you are not in charge, if the PS3 had incremential updates it wouldn't be a big deal but they can take ages and appear far too often. They rarely add anything remotely substantial either.

Wasn’t trying to, I was referring to as terms of security. Exactly the same way people go on about the IE Vs Firefox.
Me personally, I’m not going to bother cancelling my card. Don’t see the point, too many are blowing this out of proportion, out of the likelyness of their card actually being scammed because of the PSN issue.
Banks (well mine anyway) have a good fraud team and I expect them to their job, on top of me checking my bank account everyday like I have done for years. If money does come out of my account then call to them, small line of paper work completed, card cancelled, new card issued within 5 days and money refunded back like the last time. No hassle.

It's just about detecting and recognising anything that looks out of the ordinary, based on your usual purchase patterns. As said above, international transactions will usually make it flag up. I imagine the banks are privy to far more information regarding where transactions take place and what the 'popular' ones are for fraudsters, so they'll know what to look out for.

As Sony suffers their worst PR disaster for years (and us customers are left reeling with doubts over credit card and ID theft) it looks like Microsoft might be experiencing something too.

There’s a Service Alert for ‘matchmaking’ on the official site, that says users “may experience difficulties” regarding Modern Warfare 2. Apparently there are “potential phishing attempts via title specific messaging” so be aware if you’re playing that game.

“We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue,” say Microsoft. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience.”

Everything else on LIVE appears fine.

you do know you can download them on your pc which is 100 times faster, im on 50MB, the ps3 can only do like 5MB max or something, it is ridiculously slow

Not sure i'd agree with that, there will be huge numbers of people with a PS3 who may have added card details etc. who won't necessarily read gaming sites or forums, email would be far more effective at getting news to those sorts of customers.

Which depending on how the PS3 displays download rate, could actually be around the correct download speed for 50 meg.

My PS3 goes at 25Mb/s or 2.5MB/s, half of my 50Mb net, which is pretty slow really when you can only get half of your bandwidth.

Anyway phone to bank,
Me: "Sooo, if I say playstation network to you...."
Bank: "Which card was it sir?"
Me: "The Debit one I believe."
Bank: "Ok cool, well, not cool, but it's now cancelled."

Love talking to my bank sometimes xD. Not wanting to take the risk really though, plus my card was getting dull anyway

Only got one card, going to need to go to the bank and take a couple hundred quid out I think, cancel the card, then hope that I get a new card before spending it all
