I need a new gaming PC. I will mainly be using it for Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3 and the new Elder Scrolls when they eventually come out. I will need everything e.g. Monitor, Tower. I don't need a new OS or mouse or Keyboard and the budget will be around £600 - £650.

I take it you need speakers too right? (or headset)

EDIT: Here is one I just came up with if you could stretch your budget out by another £15.

A Intel 2400 cpu even destroys the AMD 975BE cpu - http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i5-2500-2400-2300_7.html#sect0

And a ATI 5870 kills a GTX460 - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/162?vs=156

MrElve's build is good for the money. I have the exact same graphics card and I can play all the Crysis games, BC2, Shogun 2, Portal 2, Call of Duty's, Batman Arkham Asylum at the maximum settings without a problem. The only game I can't play to the max is GTA IV because it requires over 1GB of graphics memory.

Since your budget is quite limited, you could also try looking in the clearance section on OCuk and find some cheaper components.

I have just found out my brother has a spare 24" monitor that i can have, As well as a spare HX520W Corsair PSU but I'm not sure if it will have enough power

PSU is great:)

Heres a spec without PSU and monitor.

Stulids Spec is actually far superior. If your budget can stretch, I'd go for a GTX 480. You say you want to play 'future games'

If you're thinking like that, then even the GTX480 will start to slow down :p It's also hot and noisy.

A better bet for a more powerful graphics card would be a GTX560Ti :)

Stu's spec is very very good, and the HX520W will have more than enough juice :D

ATI sucks, Nvidia rocks, there I said it!!! let the flames begin:p

The former AMD fanboy has turned! :p

GTX570 is a great card, and will certainly last you through Skyrim (can NOT wait xD)

I want to build the pc from stulid's list. I've been looking around for several days and this seems to be the best for the money. I've put plenty of pc's together but that was three or four years ago now....

I didn't see any cooling listed - what would people recommend? I'm asuming I'd also need to buy thermal compound.

Is there anything else I would need?

The mobo is out of stock - what would be a good alternative or should I just ring and see when it'll be back in stock?

Thank you in advance :)

You mean his first spec (i5 2400)? The motherboard he specced was the cheapest H67 board that OcUK do so you can either ring up and ask when it's back in stock or get any of the others on the list (the next least expensive in stock is Gigabyte H67M-UD2H-B3 at £84.98.

As for the cooler, if you buy a retail version CPU, you get a cooler with it which will be fine.

You should really start your own thread with your budget, main uses of the pc, and any other preferences and more people will help you out.

Go for one of the specs with the 2500k and the P67, you won't regret it. And go for a non-stock cooler - these are much better long term investments than a 2400 and a h67. However they will both provide really great performance and be overkill for almost everything at the moment.

If you want to play "future games", save your money, make do for the moment and spend the money in the future. Unless you're terribly unhappy with your current setup for current games of course, then by all means go for it.
