The Koran - Whos Read It?

I'm not a Christian or Jewish but I have read both the Qu'ran and the Bible (various translations and editions) many times.

Needless to say neither they or other faith's scriptures have yet convinced me of anything. I remain agnostic.

I'm surprised you have read them many times if you don't follow the religion, what enjoyment do you get from it? They aren't the easiest things to read.

I take it you have read them then?

Not all of them, the first one (12th Planet) and parts of some of the others. I will get around to reading them all one day. I have read other books by him, Genesis Revisited, and Divine Encounters.

However, they are not something I would recommend to someone who wants to learn about religion, and I am sure you will understand why a series of books which put forth a hypothesis of a Nibiru colonisation of Earth some 450,000 years ago are not really about religion, only a controversial interpretation of various scriptures and texts.

Yea I have read the quran and I'm reading it in English. I too agree with you OP it is amazing. Also OP why did you make a thread like this in GD? you know this is going to be an Islamic hate thread.

islamic hate thread? Surely its more likely to be a 'i dont care about religion (loligion for short)' thread.

The same as every thread like. Some like to discuss. The majority like to troll. Theres no fear mongering or specific book hatred but the majority on here feel Science > Religion.

Like ALL religious texts it's a story. A set of rules laid down by MEN who lived centuries ago and felt that the world would be better if everybody believed what they were told and followed a certain set of rules that propagated a status quo.

The human brain has an evolutionary need for a belief in a higher power. As children we have invisible friends, a few years later, we have gods.

That's not an Islamic hate position (some of my best friends are Muslims, I play cricket with half a dozen every Sunday). It's an opinion. Religious people would receive a lot less hatred from others if they didn't keep dismissing our opinions as false; you have your beliefs, I have mine. You believe in a higher power, I believe in the truth I personally see and touch in Science and Nature. If only we could all accept that everybody doesn't have to believe in the same things to make the world work...

To let people know there's nothing to fear from the Koran.

As an atheist, I'm happy to believe in you there. Because any text only becomes powerful when men believe and act upon it. Unfortunately, religious texts tend to leave themselves open to interpretation and may out there are weak.

I personally find some of Dawkins' work inspiring and uplifting, I see truths myself in the explanations of Science, yet there are many who would see people like him put to death in the name of their own beliefs.

As I said above, you have your opinion, I have mine. I think you are probably wrong, you obviously don't. Nuff said, lets all get on with our lives...
