They are both about the same price, and have 2 different OS's,

Never owned an apple product but it looks good.

No hate comments just want your opinions on which would be best in overall use.

Browsing, music, movies and typing notes for university etc.

Fire away!

ty :)

For what you want they're pretty similar, also with the right vouchers you can get the transformer for £350 online.

Games is where the ipad is king.

I chose the transformer because I like the interface better, ipads bigger screen iphone look is horrible, I also plan to get the dock when it's out should make things a lot more interesting especially with 16 hours of battery life, and that's playing 720p video, can't wait for those tegra games too.

Looking at getting the Transformer and dock :) i like the look of android3.0 honeycomb as well, and after looking at videos etc for iPad2, it seems that most things i want can be done on the first one :/

Will see what i have in a few weeks time, might treat myself to the Transformer with dock, but id probably go to purple high street store to have a look at it myself - if they have it on demo that is :)

Keep your eye out in the transformer thread, latest update fixes a lot of the bugs you might see in reviews and I'll probably be giving my opinion when mine arrives on Wednesday.

Should think you can get your hands on a demo one, they seem to have every other tablet on show there atm.

I think I'd go for the Transformer + dock, for the usage you mentioned:

Browsing will be pretty similar, Transformer has Flash which is a small benefit but both good in this respect,

Music/Movies, this kinda depends on what you're talking about, if you've got a collection of music and movies outside of the iTunes world then the Transformer should play them well, on the other hand the iTunes world is 'good' in the sense of delivering content, how and when Google will implement their own Music/Movies service is still up in the air

Notes for Uni, on-screen keyboards will be similar, but the Transformer with the dock has a huge benefit here imo, add in the extra battery life that gives and it's a definite plus point for the Transformer.

So yeah, for me Transformer + Dock, but I am slightly biased as I love Android and I'm not a fan of the iOS/Apple 'world'...

Besides the stupid commenting, Margarets name wont get mentioned.....

I think id go with the Transformer, and with Google docs as an app on android now, it should be on honeycomb pretty soon i should hope - making document development even better for notes taking etc. :)

And i have a Dropbox account, it would take ages to download the films, but once their, they are easy to play :)

But i would probably get a small 8GB USB to stick into the keyboard for movie storage, leave the 16GB for files for Uni and then music if i have any i want to save onto it :)

iPad 2.

Why? Lovely hardware backed up by very solid (if more basic) software and a fantastic app store.

Yes, flash is missing but there are very few instances where that will be a problem, if ever.

I believe at this moment in time it's simply not a good idea to adopt an Android tablet, especially when the iPad is so good. Android's tablet time will come, but not yet.

Samsung Galaxy S2.

Why?
It's faster than both, just... (apart for gaming on the iPad 2)
Better to type on for a portable device (well I need to rest the 10" tablets on a table without a dock/bluetooth keyboard, much easier with a 4.3" screen)
It has a proper high end screen (none of this old LCD tech :p)
Miles better cameras.
More reliable/solid OS than Honeycomb, more complex than iOS and you can connect USB drives out the box. (better video playback too)

:)

(If your still gagging for a 10" touchscreen, the transformer + dock would be better for uni with the iPad 2 best for the home use)

Samsung Galaxy S2 = Thought we were talking 10" Tablets here not 4.3 Phones ....

OP - Check out the Transformer thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18257595

I have the Transformer and took it into my office where all colleagues have iPad2's and they were impressed with the Transformer, it will be even better when Asus ship the keyboard base as others have already mentioned, 16 hours of battery life and a full keyboard for note taking etc.

Tablets are still luxury consumer items, I was just looking out for a poor* student potentially caught up in the hype :D

Better to have a useful phone + old laptop for course work than expensive tablet collecting dust with all those old empty bottles of beer.
Hmm, actually maybe iPad ownership would get you more student hoes? That's certainly more important than browsing, music, movies and typing notes. Something to think about, eh DefiantAsh ;)

*He could be loaded with several Ferraris for all I know, in which case buy both.

A poor student can afford to buy £400+ phone? I must've been a tramp as student

I gather you don't have a laptop or desktop PC? Or does your desktop PC have a 4 inch screen?

I think you see what I'm getting at.

I have a netbook, and an android phone, and they do, id keep my phone, sell off my netbook, get the rest of my EMA for this year as i finish on the 20th May then i would invest :)

Honeycomb for the Transformer has constant updates - subscribed/liked the page on facebook for something like android central.

Love the iPad2 though, but id like a solid dock, they have one, by zagg? but thats again $100, so £400 for ipad2, then another £70 or so for the dock, id rather have the transformer.

Oh and i have passed my test first time, at 17, but no car :) cannot afford!

If you have a netbook (which model btw?) and an android phone there's little need to throw more cash at a tablet in my opinion. Based on what you've said you need the tablet for. Plus, if your netbook is windows-based you have the advantage of actually being able to edit documents for school/college/uni/work as you can get MS Office and other useful productivity applications running easily. iOS and Android can't touch Windows for productivity in the everyday environment.

Save up for a car instead!

Just want something new, if i could i'd get a CULV laptop, but i dont have any spare cash, but if i were to consider selling my netbook, and saving i could get the Transformers.

It has polaris office, and a chance of getting google docs, for notes taking then i can email them to myself and edit at home on my Windows PC.

I use my android phone simply because it was cheap, San Francisco :) and its really handy, works well, and battery lasts a while, oh and i have a Acer Aspire One D255 Dual Core N550.

The Transformer also pakcs that 16 hour quoted battery, with 720p playback on, so thats a lot of time surfing on the move, watching movies and just generally playing games.

And finally, even if i did have enough for a car, only would spend about £400 for a decent run around, i'd need insurance, MOT, and without a job it would not be worth it. Hopefully i can find a summer job, if not then idk :)
