Driver issues :@

I updated to the latest drivers a few days ago, the ones that come with the new AMD vision engine control centre.
Apart from, it doesn't work.
When I run it, I get the error message saying the CCC host application has stopped working.
Obvious solution was to uninstall and use an earlier driver. So I uninstalled, downloaded the 10.8 suite, uninstalled again using device manager and then ran CCleaner.
This time, it didn't even install at all! An INF file was missing or something

So I unistalled using device manager, deleted all files I could find and ran CCleaner again. Then used windows update to get me of the standard VGA driver and installed the 11.4 suite ontop, section by section. Install driver, wait for windows to catch up, restart, install control centre, wait for windows e.t.c..

And now I'm back to square one.

Google has failed me, so the next step is to ask the internet. Lend me your wisdom OCUK!

I'm running this system:
5870
965BE
crosshair IV
4GB Ram
Windows 7 64bit

The problem is even more frustrating as it means I can't use the CCC to change my monitors out of clone mode, seeing myself type the same thing twice isn't a good use of power really...

If you do need to uninstall it's better to use the built in uninstaller but generally theres no need to uninstall and simply install over the top. Programs like CCleaner are notorious for messing os' up.

It can't be any issue with Crap Cleaner or the latest 3.0.0 version of Driver Sweeper (in safe mode), because I use both every time I install new drivers.

No problems here at all.

OT, but is CCleaner a poor piece of software then?
For me, never had any problems with it been using it for well over 5 years on a regular basis i.e. once a month.

People say Driver Sweeper is crap, but thats only because when you search for Driver Sweeper using google for example it brings up Guru3D website they still have the 2009 2.10 version on there.

If you look on the http://phyxion.net/ website, they have the latest version 22/4/2011, which is 3.0.0 which addresses all the problems that people have installing Windows Service Pack 1 with AMD/ATI Drivers.

I have e-mailed the website team for Guru3D to sort the link out, strangely enough they have banned the Phyxion developer from their forums - weired.

try driver kleener as above , how ever i only experience the same problem as you was when i had 3870 in cf . part from that never had any hassle on drivers

Driver Sweeper 2.60 and above were removed from Guru3D because they contained ad-ware installers.

It is also known to screw up some Windows installs and you can't say that if don't have a problem with the software, nobody else will.

Also, CCleaner is very safe in the default mode (at least the latest versions) but removing drivers from Windows manually can cause some driver file corruptions, happened to me on one occasion and required working out the solution in Safe Mode.

Anyway, let Windows 7 install its default driver manually, reboot, uninstall CCC (express mode) including Catalyst Install Manager, reboot and install the latest driver manually (without CCC), see if any problems persist.

If everything works, you can install CCC on top of the drivers and everything should be fine from there on.

INF file was missing or something is a result of CC deleting it.

Yes for some set ups CC will not be a problem but it will not be ok with all systems as all systems are different & users should never forget that fact.

Guru3D have never ever updated the software for Driversweeper, it's been the same download since I first downloaded it over a year ago, had to always update it via Phyxion website.

And as for ad-ware? OpenCandy? and as far as I can see it's only Microsoft Security Essentials out of all the ad-ware/malware programs that gives a low level warning.
OpenCandy runs a moderated recommendation network that enables software developers to recommend other software during installation of their application they believe will be valuable to their users

INF was missing because he uninstalled the card from Driver Manager - Windows 7 will always restore the previously working driver so that you can use your PC normally.

I have uninstalled cards from Device Manager many times & i have never had that INF was missing, i have only ever had the INF was missing when using CC.

Yeah, the inf missing problem started when I uninstalled using the CCC, I fixed it by uninstalling further and then forward again in device manager.
Just tried to use driver sweeper 3.0, Installed fine, but crashes when I load it up

You mean CC & not CCC.

Do you have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 installed or higher installed?

Run Windows Update, make sure everything is upto date. Infact come to think of it, you need Microsoft .NET Framework installed for Catalyst Control Centre to work properly.
