Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

Cant believe GeoHot is the new Chief Information Security Officer :p (if you believe some of the idiots on this thread)

Hmm I didnt create my PSN account on the PS3 I have at the moment, it was a couple of ones back - does that mean Ill have to go via validated email? Knowing how organised SCEE is, a rollout for us means this Christmas...

New rollout "shortly" - today, next week, shortly next month, next year..?!

Edit, ah, this week. So all will be as normal within the next 7 days? Sure :)

Just been looking at a few sites that have picked up the press release for the same thing - seems to vary a bit regards rollout time, but looks like this week for basic services and end of month for all services to be resumed...

Seem like there was a hole in the security that management wasnt aware off, but others were. This was used to hack into PSN, the passwords was stored as hash values though, which depending on how it was done more secure than encryption.
So for this we get an extra free month PSN+ or a month if you dont have it
Some free content of unknown value and type
If you want to leave PSN you now can get your PSN wallet refunded (never used to)
Improved security across PSN services
New firmware which we have to change our passwords via the original PS3 or via verified email

errr they let all our personal details be stolen of course they owe us something, hopefully sony will get a massive fine from the ICO, they can stick their 30days of + and free shoddy game, you know its going to be some awful game no one wants!

LET? In what way did they Let our details get taken. No one let's it happen ffs, I'm not worries about a month free tbh I just want to be back online and forget about all of this.

they let them in by using outdated software and a system that had enough holes in it to allow this hack obviously

free 30-day subscription to PlayStation Plus and a free software download of some sort, while Qriocity customers will get an extra 30 days of service on the house.

Thats what there going to gie us according to Engadget.
Not bad.

Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
• All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
• Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.

Great :D

so possibly a free game, month free on psn+ and if you have qriocity u get that for a month free too (whatever it is)

And first thing they are bringing back is online gaming, good good :) Have my fingers crossed for monday.

Alls well that ends well.

I presume the free PS+ trial starts at the refresh (4th May - cant see the PSN Store being up earlier, unless they delay the whole refresh to allow people to pick up stuff they mighthave missed including the Spring Offers) which is a shame as Aprils offering was pretty damn good...

Have to give Kudos to Sony for the executives bowing when apologising. And remember, nobody actually died either.

Can't think of any other corporations doing anything similar, e.g. BP for their disaster last year which actually killed people?!

Do you think its Sony that gave that edict or those executives themselves fearing losing their jobs/career paths? Personally, though I understand the sentiment, its completely irrelevant, Id rather see their continued efforts on PSN...

Its either that or a great test to see how drunk you are :p
