Clubbing Experience

Why dont you just put the wallet and phone in your pocket like everyone else.

I have never used a cloakroom in the 10 years I have been clubbing. Whether its winter in a city 200 miles away or in another country. Sure, I have been to clubs in my coat before in counteries like Prague but everyone just keeps them on in clubs. Much easier

Generally I will tshirt it and bare the cold

Don't carry all your cards about, just take some cash and a single bank card. Also take a crappy phone that you wouldn't be bothered about losing.

I'm from Doncaster, living in Leeds.

A club in prague had a sign on that said "No Guns, No grenades"

My mate got a gun pulled on him and kept it pointed at him until we went and got him 50 euros when he dropped up off. All part of the eastern europe experiences!

Did the Jacket have a hood?

Just put your phone and wallet in your pocket, i've been doing that for years and they've never fallen out?

Down here in the south thats fairly normal - I usually wear a jacket (leather) when I go out unless it good weather - about 1/3rd the clubs here ask you to remove your jacket on entry - various clubs have different dress codes but removing jackets or wearing shoes (not trainers) are the more common ones - most of them you simply hand over jacket, get a ticket for it in return and try and remember to collect it as you stumble out at 3am.

As for wallet etc. I usually plan ahead and use something that fits with my trousers.

minimalise yourself

ie dont take out a huge wallet.... take out the essentials, so small wallet 1 card you know you can rely on for emergency cash, id and cash. as for phone, ive not seen a phone in ages that cant fit in a normal pocket... but then again im not a phone fashion expert.

What I take to a club:

Phone
Little thing that came with my wallet which will hold my Drivers license and 1 bank card.
I don't take a wallet, I put notes inside that little 2 card holder I got and coins just go straight in my pocket.

You don't need all your bank cards, your family photos, your national insurance number and your receipts, just take the essentials :P, if I wasn't young I wouldn't even bother to take my ID with me.

^^ I still get asked for ID quite a lot and I'm certainly not young, even when I'm on VIP/concessions I've been asked for ID.

Here is what i would have done...hope it helps for next time. :)

Upon entering, we all paid the entry fee and went in, when I was told by one of the staff to remove my jacket (Of all the clubs i've been to in the Mids, I've never been asked to do that before btw)

Don't kick up a fuss. Just do as they say if you want to go in. Sure, ask them why but you should have just gone along with it.

I always keep my wallet in my inside pocket because it's quite large, same with my phone so I don't feel comfortable either A) carrying them around in my hand or B) stuffing them in my trouser pocket where they're liable to fall onto the floor. I mentioned this to the member of staff, but he didn't seem to take it very well and insisted I pay to leave everything in the closet.

If i do take a jacket, i leave my ID (if i got ID'd on the way in), my card and anything else i didn't need in my jacket pocket. The pocket is always a zip/ button pocket and i choose the jacket accordingly before i leave. I ensure my phone is in one pocket and cash/card in the other pocket. Front and not back pockets.

I was pretty insistent I was not going to leave all my collateral (credit/debit cards etc) with some stranger, and so put all my £££'s in my trouser pocket and removed my jacket and placed it on the seat and sat next to it.

Why? That is what a cloakroom is. You leave your stuff with a stranger. That's life but it's their job. They will want to keep their job so they won't be taking anything. If they did, THEN you could have a go at them etc.

From here it pretty much went downhill, and was cursed at several times before being threatened with violence. On this note, I decided to leave and make my way home, rather than get into a situation or cause all my friends to leave and go somewhere else with me. I did ask to be refunded before leaving and was duly given back my money.

Probably because you were being awkward and causing problems when there shouldn't have been one in the first place. They had other things to do and you were stopping them i'm afraid. :o

Fair play for getting your money back.

I don't know how else I should have reacted tbh. And feel quite cut up about it, i'd go as far to say it was quite distressing at the time. does it come accross quite childish that I wasn't 'doing as I was told'??

Sorry if i come across blunt but this is what i would have done.

I dont see the issue, if the club rules say you have to check in your jacket you have to check in your jacket.

Generally, they tell you at the door though, my issue was I was not told that on the way in. (Call me anal, but I prefer everything in black and white before handing over money)

When he actually asked me at first, I didn't flat out refuse, I simply raised the issue, didn't change his mind - so went back out, emptied my cash into my trouser pocket, went back in and slung my jacket on the chair and sat next to it - which is where it all got out of hand.

PS> I generally agree with the UK club ****less remarks, pub with live music is far better.

You need a handbag OP

Seriosouly, phone in one pocket, key/wallet in t'other

I have been doing this since I started going out and never had a problem.

Clubs are great but dont forget they are use to dealing with people that fly off the handle so they are always ready to make things get heated so they can throw you out.

Everything's gotta fit in pockets, which is why pocket space is a big issue in any clothes I buy. Essentials I have with me whenever I leave teh house are:

1) Keys
2) Wallet
3) Phone
4) Fags
5) Money
6) Ability to get more money
7) Things to make me smell nice

All of these things must fit in pockets without the need for extra storage space, and they can't get in the way. Don't really understand what sort of trousers you were wearing that meant you couldn't fit your wallet & phone in them, but sounds like you need some new clothes.

Also, quite a few clubs enforce checking in nowadays. There's always been a big problem with people walking off with coats that aren't theirs - come in with no coat, leave with a nice one. It's hardly uncommon, and not really something to feel singled out over.

I don't understand why you'd want to keep your jacket on anyway - how do you do The Chicken Dance in a jacket without getting very sweaty?

I can fit everything I need in 3 pockets, wallet in one, phone & cigarettes in the other and change and keys in a back pocket.
I don't have a going out wallet or anything, I just don't carry junk around in my wallet. Debit card, credit card, 2 IDs, few business cards, money and a couple of condoms - it's all you need. Oh, and your Nero loyalty card.
