New Job Assessment - What to wear?

Anyone I know who works in a suit is working for the government or a backward organization.

Don't know many people then, many, many companies operate on a smart (suit) dress code. Also working and interviews are two very different environments. I work in an smart casual office, but for the interview was in a suit, because otherwise I'd have looked like a scruffy oik.

Your Mum is telling you to wear a suit, but without a jacket - you don't seem to have a problem with that.

Just wear a suit.

I work in government and have never ever worn a suit to work.

But I would always always wear a suit to anything job interview related.

It depends who it's for, entirely.

If it's for some scruffy backwater Wernham-Hogg-a-like then you can turn up in cheap trousers an ill-fitting shirt, and a nylon tie and you'll be fine.

rite, I'm just going to wear smart trousers, shirt and tie with smart shoes and might possibly wear a suit next week if I get to the interview stage.

Thanks.

I suggest you try and meet some more people then.

I've worked for a variety of fund managers, hedge funds and associated IT companies, turning up in a suit would be somewhat laughed upon. The only people I've met that wear suits are cheap car salesmen and recruitment consultants.

How do people not wear suits to job opportunities (spelling I've had a dwink) and still get good jobs?

The mind boggles.
