Why is PR not on the poll. I want PR but nobody is listening to me so I'll stick with FPTP till the government pull their finger out and realise what people really want.
But at the moment the people can only express what they want through a FPTP voting system.

Why?

It can easily be seen as "Ok, we've given the people what they want....no more change necessary"

You should vote for AV if you feel it is a practical improvement on FPTP, if not then vote No as there is no point in changing.

This is my thought. If AV gets a resounding "yes" then it'll be another few hundred years before we get a chance to change again.

I was speaking to a mate who said he was voting yes, I asked him why and his reply was "because it will annoy Cameron". He didn't even know what the av system was!. I spent 20 mins explaining it to him and told him to read up before Thursday. That the issue though, there are people who will blindly vote because its not what the conservatives want. I think its telling that there a large numbers of labour MP's on the "no" campaign.

That's why its not on there, because it would win :p

Voting no is just as much as an endorsement of the current system - those in the NO camp are very same people that left the PR option off the referendum.

I'll be voting for AV. Partly because I think it's technically a better system and should hopefully please more people more of the time, partly because I don't think a change can do our hideous political system any harm, and partly just to wind up all the anti-AV crowd.

This, it isn't rocket science :)

You could argue neither is AV. If people can't write 1, 2, 3 etc instead of an X then they really shouldn't be out of the house on their own.

Neither system is great though, FPTP has it's merits, but so does AV. I don't like the way the "No" campaign has essentially been telling people porkies and making us out to be morons, that's not clever and people don't like negative campaigning in the UK.

Definitely AV. It's not perfect but no system is. AV will surely better represent voters' opinion and reduce scope for tactical voting.

Because AV looks like placing more power in the hands of those who are pushing for change and who have stated that a proper PR system is their goal. Look at what happened in Canada with voting reform over the last few years, losing a referendum on change killed the political appetite to consider any other similar change.
If your goal is PR voting for AV is more likely to get you there quicker than voting to keep FPTP, to paraphrase Voltaire; Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Essentially AV is identical to FPTP but without the Spoiler Effect.
Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt, with a good dash of lies are the best that the FPTP proponents can offer.

It is just as likely that voting for AV will just as effectively kill any further debate for PR.

In fact it is more likely that those pushing for reform will gain momentum if the AV yes vote fails as more people look into PR and other reforms in the constituency and parliamentary arenas also.

So basically, we're damned if we do and damned if we don't?

I say rock the boat.

Unless I see a strong argument otherwise, I'm voting AV.
