Whats the salary?

Obviously not enough to warrant dressing correctly.

OP May I suggest this?

First impressions and all.

It is fairly simple, if you really wanted the job you would wear a suit. The interviewer knows this, you know it. So in reality what you wear reflects on how seriously you are taking the opportunity.

Every grad job I have applied for has asked for business wear at the assesment days. The placement year job that I got a few years ago asked for a suit in the interview aswell (jeans and tshirt after getting the job).

Turning up to an interview without a suit gives the wrong impressions from the start and in the current climate companies are looking to cull applicants using any reasons available dont give them an easy one!

well, went for my assessment and there were eight people including me and everyone bar me and this other guy turned up in jeans. I work trousers, shirt and tie and the other guy wore trousers and a shirt.

Why did you even bother asking what you should wear if your not taking anyone's advice?
ANY interview, regardless of where it is should be suit, always.
Just seems a pretty pointless topic IMO and you also seem a little arrogant with your response to people trying to offer you advice to help you get the job...Just my opinion...

This should be a sticky. It's incredible that this question even comes up but it does and frequently.

Suit. Always *

* unless you're an IT basement dweller in which case wear your dressing gown and bring your Cheetos and Gatorade. Also, Warcraft figurines.

so if I were to go for an interview at McDonalds for a cleaner position, I'd wear a suit? Bull****. This is stupid.

Oh and I didn't ask what I should wear, I asked what others would wear I mentioned that I wouldn't be wearing a suit.

Would it be an interview? Yes.
Is it best to wear a suit for every interview NO MATTER what job? Yes.

Have I just answered your question? Yes.

You ask ANYONE in ANY management position and they will always say they would rather offer the job to someone who was in a suit and looked presentable than someone who looked like they just through on the nearest shirt and trousers...
