CCTV images of the moment a hit-and-run driver struck a man, leaving him critically injured, have been released by police in Greater Manchester.

Dale O'Malley is seen being thrown into the air by the car and landing on the road in Stockport town centre.

The 28-year-old's family asked for the release of the pictures in a bid to trace the driver.

Mr O'Malley, from Offerton, suffered head injuries and remains in a critical condition in Salford Royal hospital.

Been reading about it and when it happened, some sad people out there, to not only leave him and not even stop but to coward to hand themselves into the police, no doubt drunk/speeding/no insurance etc.

Hope they catch the **** and do the same to him.

You seem shocked that people who commit criminal acts which they beleive will result in them going to prison don't hand themselves into police?

I was being serious - you seem suprised he hasn't handed himself in? Why would he - it's commited a criminal act and will go to prison, not many criminals hand themselves in. I'd be more shocked if he *had* handed himself in.

So is the driver they're looking for the 206 driver? It looks like a 206 to me. Quite odd photo, I'm not disturbed by it that much, but it is strange. Not graphic, but captures the moment with a certain surreal aspect - it's not something you often see. I hope the chap can make a decent recovery.

Some people do hand themselves in though. Often when there is a murder case or similar you see the police or victims appealing for the person to come forward. Sometimes it may just be someone who knows them as well, but guilt can get the better of these people, just like it can with anyone. It's better to try and get someone to come forward voluntarily than not try at all.

It's obviously late in the evening. Could have been the weekend and he's been walking home and staggered into the road and been hit. The fact the driver fled could also be because they were drunk. Most sober people stop. Most drunks flee.

the driver didnt stop but is it excusable the pedestrian was in the road?

I dont really think we can make any judgements like this without seeing the video. For all we know the driver in question was speeding away from a crime scene, or anything! It's simply not fair with just that still image to suggest it might have been the pedestrians fault.

If it was purely the pedestrians fault then most drivers would have immediatly stopped anyway. He fled almost certainly because he realised he had done something seriously wrong.

First time i got in a car i was told this isnt a car its a killing box on wheels.

Even if the guy was in the road you dont drive off unless you yourself are breaking the law.

There's a person upside down flying in the air, I'd say it's pretty graphic!

More surreal and strange timing than graphic though. The graphic scene would be a few seconds later after hitting the ground - even then I doubt it would have been all that "graphic" in that image.

The driver should have stopped, plain and simple. It is of course entirely possible the pedestrian jumped into the road or did something stupid - I see it with our university students all the time. Of course, the driver still should have stopped.

Could be a female driver who didn't handle the shock of hitting someone too well. Plenty to speculate about but we wont know without seeing the video.
