To top it off their coalition human shield has served its purpose.

Let's be realistic here. The coalition is fundamentally a conservative one with a smattering of the lib dem policies. Given most who voted Conservative will have done so knowing that there would be massive cuts to everything is it really surprising? Those who voted Conservative are pretty much getting what they voted for so what reason would they be disenchanted with the current coalition? It's the Lib Dems who had to give up the most so of course their supporters will be feeling hard done by. The suggestion that they are merely meat shields is just ridiculous.

The silly thing is lib dems voters must have there heads in the sands. Lib dem have got an amazing amount of power. Far more than the number of votes they received. Conservatives have given them huge concessions just to get a working government. This is the best situation they have ever been in and a few policies is better than zero. They, dare I say it are stupid.

Av results sorrow down. Must be, being hammered.

2,532,642 YesVotes so far 'Yes': 31.45%

5,519,804 NoVotes so far 'No': 68.55%

Voting areas declared: 229 / 440

One can almost safely say that the public have given AV the finger.

The brainless masses have doomed us to a terrible voting system with no chance for change. :(

Really. Or saved us from a similarly rubbish system with no further change.

Further change wasn't on the cars, it was one system against the other. Campaigning will continue and hopefully at some time in the future we will be offered real reform.

In before: the voting is a fix!

I don't think that AV is going to be much better than FPTP to be honest. Although in FPTP a candidate can be elected when more voted against them than for them, from what I understand in AV you could have a situation where someone is being voted in on the strength of their 3rd or 4th place votes?

Not only voted in or those lower votes, they still don't require 50% of the. Voters support.

There's only one change that will make a difference and that's some sort of PR.

Small improvements lead to big changes, the vote effectively says the public don't care about reform and things will now never change.

I don't think may of the 70% who voted NO will have done so because they think AV doesn't go far enough. I think most people vote NO because they're swayed by untruths from the NO campaign, they're scared of change, or they're stupid.

Sadly, I think this is the end of the line for electoral reform, for now at least.

I'm struggling to imagine a "Say YES to PR" campaign being any more successful...

I just hope that it doesn't go ignored. Change is necessary, even if AV is not the right fit nor what the people want.

There's no proof of that, even the research papers say that there isn't enough info to declare it more likely.

What ever the outcome it was always going to be the end of reform for a long time.

I could see PR getting more votes as, av is just lib dem and some labour supporters. Main,y because of who they vote for or because they say it'll bring further change. Where PR is a decent system that will have support from all party voters wanting a better system.

The mass fraud commited by the NO campaign certainly will have influenced the results. The elderly scared of change should not be allowed to vote so they can't ruin it for the younger generation considering they're going to be dead before the changes take effect.

And how about the yes camaign, honest remarks. Oh wait. Both need to be hauled in front of the commission and banned from advertising again.

Will the yes people organise a march in London now their vote has been rejected by the masses?

anyone registered marchforthealternativevote.org.uk?

Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better.
