It would only have an apostrophe in it if a person's name was Thank, and you were saying they had something.

E.g. "This is Thank's ball."

Apostrophe usually means that a letter is being missed out. There is no missing letter in thanks, it is simply the plural of thank.

Why in the name of God's earth would you put an apostrophe in there?

It depends. For example if Paul Thank owned a car, it would be Paul Thank's car.

Or if you happened to think that Thank was the best word in the world, and were in a hurry, you could say Thank's the best word in the world.

But if you were graciously acknowledging something, then thanks works just fine.
