New Xbox on the horizon ?

I hope that the new xbox and ps3 don't get released for a few years yet. The current gen are at their peak now and still look good. The longer they wait, the bigger jump it will be.

It would take a couple of years to do a decent launch title. so i reckon a year or two yet.

According to an unnamed source speaking to Develop, development kits for a new Microsoft console are in the offices of one of EA's studios. The source, which does not work for either EA or Microsoft, had no specific information about the hardware except that it came in a PC shell and was shipped to EA last month.

That little information is actually enough to rule out the updated Xbox 360 dev kits revealed last month, since those come in Xbox-shaped cases. The source believes ("but did not have certain information," Develop disclaims) the new console will launch at the end of 2012, which would put it in direct competition with the Wii successor, and, if true, would make an E3 reveal seem likely (again, to compete with the new Nintendo console).

However, a Eurogamer source responded to this Develop article to note that a new Microsoft console probably won't be revealed at E3.

Would be an ideal time for a new MS console, Sony seem likely to rest on their 10 year plan for PS3....

All 3 will have a new console by Xmas 2012. The 10 year plan for the PS3 is nonsense. Sony considered the PS2 a 10 year console as well but I doubt the PS3 will have the legs that the PS2 had.

Power wise I would guess that the next Xbox will have something similar to a 6970 at 28nm.

Going by how the 360 first consoles were built/designed dont think Ill be a day one for these, or any of the next gen consoles.

10 year lifetime doesn't mean they can't bring a new console out before them. Just means they will continue to support the old for 10 years.

Maybe they will bring out a new XBOX sooner than we think, Imagine the Wii2 having the best version of new games, really don't think Microsoft will let that happen for too long ;)

The wii2 might actually prompt sony and ms to act sooner. Nintendo was intending to have all the core 3rd party games on its platform (e.g. cod, gta etc) as developing them at the same time as ps3 and 360 versions would add little cost. By releasing new consoles earlier, sony and ms can force 3rd parties to move away from the wii2...

Then again, nintendo don't exactly struggle when relying on first party content.

Microsoft also have the funds to chuck man and money at the project and get it out there asap, even if it means selling the machine at a loss for a few years until the manufacturing process is refined.

As said a bit above, Wii 2 having the best graphics and games? Cant see MS allowing that, not after they worked so hard to get a foothold in the console world.

I doubt the new wii will have better graphics. The base of customers will be too small to warrent making it the lead platform, so regardless if it is more powerfull it will be a staight port from 360 or ps3.

there is a very good likelyhood that the new wii will have better graphical capabilities because both the Xbox360 and PS3 currently have 5 year old technology in them, and in the technology game that's a long time. Even mid range components today will be performing better than high end 5 years ago. Even if the games are straight ports they could have more AA and be much better looking. Who knows which way nintendo will go.

The new Wii will obviously have better graphics than the 360 and PS3 simply because you'd struggle to make anything with worse graphics with parts currently being made.

Don't bet on it Nintendo likes to make money on its hardware which is why the Wii got a GC 1.5 GPU in it which didn't quite beat the Xbox One.

It's a given that all three manufacturers are working on their next console, they would have been from the day the current ones hit the shops.

I very much doubt Microsoft will announce it at this E3, it would commercial suicide seeing as they just released the Kinect, after spending god knows how much on developing it.

PS2 games are still coming out. If all I owed for the rest of my life was a PS2 and I was a casual gamer, I'd be over the moon with the support the console has received. Hope the same can be said to the PS3.

I also doubt there will be any announcement.

As others have mentioned, there are two main reasons:

- Consoles and Games are selling very well, this Gen of consoles are the best we have ever had and there is little reason to need an upgrade right now. We have games, multimedia, TV, film rentals, music, online gaming, internet, chat, body motion controls. What really is there that can be added other than more speed and better graphics?

- The Kinect is the fastest selling consumer device in history. That reinforces that there is plenty of interest and life left in the current console, and they will be concentrating heavily on that new sub-platform.
